On Aug. 27 and 28, 100 golfers participated in the 2nd Annual Iron Horse Scramble at Skyview Golf Course. Entrants came from throughout the Nebraska Panhandle as well as from Grand Island, Lincoln and Omaha. The tournament also included golfers from Wyoming, Colorado, South Dakota and Arizona.
Each four-man team was drawn randomly and consisted of one “A” player, one “B” player, one “C” player, and one “D” player based on handicap. The tournament was a standard scramble format and each team was then given ten percent of their total team handicap as a deduction from their gross score (5% each day).
The tournament started Friday evening with a dinner at the Alliance Eagles Club followed by the drawing of the teams. Tee times started at 8:00 AM on Saturday morning. A steak fry for the golfers was held at Skyview Golf Course Saturday evening.
In addition to competing for the tournament championship, the golfers had a chance to win various flag prizes on both Saturday and Sunday.
The event concluded on Sunday with the team of Ryan Taylor, Paul Grosz, Brandon Foster and Jerrold Neal taking first place with a net score of 115.62. Each of the winners received a new Callaway cart bag. Second place, with a net score of 115.84, went to the team of Kyle Danford, Ben Woods, Bill Brashear and Brandon Burke. Third place went to the team of Zach Rouzee, Jon Daniels, Reece Jensen and Chris Gasseling with a score of 116.73.
The organizers want to thank all of the participants and are already making plans for next year’s event which will be held August 4-6.
