Catholic Schools Week kicked off for the Alliance St. Agnes Academy on Sunday with the playing of the 30th annual elementary basketball tournament played at the Holy Rosary Parish Center. Twenty five all stars took part in the competition that consisted of boys and girls in grades 1-2-3.
The boy’s division saw three teams participate in the event with the Gray Wolves going undefeated and taking home first place. Team members: Tyce Johnson, Andre Estevance Acosta, Liam Hansen, and Wyatt Gross Rhode. Coaching the Wolves were Liam Pena, Declan Kirschner, Jaden Estevance Acosta, and Tee Johnson. Finishing second were the Blue Bandits. Playing for the Bandits were Canton Devlin, Parker Gumm, Anthony Gonzalez, and Traeven Ravert. Rounding out the field were the Purple Axolotls with members Deacon Shelmadine, Luka Beck, and Gabe McCleary.
Taking home first for the girls were the Blue Crusaders coached by Amora Gonzalez and Hannah Benzel. The Crusaders had Veronica Benzel, Raegan Mulhern, and Ophelia Baker on its team. Placing second were the Red Robins whose team members were Hayden Kozal, Parker Brown, and Breleigh Hicks. Also competing were the Black Panthers. The Panthers consisted of: McKenzie Conyers, Marlie Salcido, Sloan Nagaki, and Charlie Schulze. The final team were the White Huskers and playing for them were: Allie Armstrong, Raya Beck, Paisley Gumm, and Phoebe Wilcox.
The tournament was the culmination of a three week clinic put on by St. Agnes teacher/coach Mark Glesinger who would like to thank all the players, the parents, and all the older students for helping put all this together.
