Youth currently in eighth grade are invited to take part in a fun 4-H field trip event called Next Chapter at Nebraska on Saturday, Oct. 30 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Youth will arrive at the Prairie Winds Community Center in Bridgeport for part of the day to learn more about Chapter 1 in the Next Chapter Program. In the afternoon youth will travel to Fanny’s Fruit & Pumpkin Patch in Gurley and take part in all the fun activities they offer there. Youth do not have to be a 4-H member to participate!
The Next Chapter program is a multi-level college readiness program that includes four unique Chapters starting in 8th grade and continuing through high school. Students will set S.M.A.R.T goals, discover careers, build resumes, practice good study skills, develop communication and interview skills, learn time management, write personal statements and experience a variety of learning methods that will help them transition to and succeed in college. Each level includes a field trip and eventually a trip to Lincoln to visit the University of Nebraska – Lincoln and tour the campus. Through the Next Chapter program eighth-grade students are automatically pre-admitted to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
