The Box Butte County 4-H Program held a weeks’ worth of workshops June 21-25.
On Monday youth created a floating fortress out of a palette and rope.
Tuesday was held in Hemingford and youth created their own rockets and launched them off. On Wednesday, youth put their sewing skills to the test and marble dyed fabric to create a pillow, tie-dyed a t-shirt and learned about the primary, secondary, and tertiary colors fabricating a color wheel. Thursday, 4-Hers built a bird bath out of terra cotta pots and planted their very own hanging basket. At the end of the week, we had eight youth practice their baking skills. Youth made their very own lunch of homemade applesauce and cabbage burgers, and for dessert they learned how brownies taste different when the sugar is substituted. Almost all these projects are eligible to be exhibited at the county fair as 4-H exhibits. Come out to the Box Butte County Fair August 5 to see these creative kids’ exhibits. What a great way to “Learn By Doing!”
