6 to 5 Loss to Lincoln Ends State Run for Junior Spartans

Brester Construction from Lincoln tallied one fifth inning in downing the Spartans from Alliance 6 to 5 on Monday to advance in the state class B tournament. With the loss, Alliance ends their season with a 26 and 18 record. The Peltz Co was down by 4 in the top of the fifth before tying the contest on a double by Spartan EJ Garcia. Unfortunately, Brester scored one tally in the bottom of the inning and went on for the victory. Nason Thompson led the offense for Alliance, garnering 2 of the Spartans’ 8 hits. Starting pitcher Tony Escamilla went 4 innings for Alliance while Braeden Clarke hurled the last 2.

Both teams went down quickly in the first. Lincoln, the home squad, went scoreless as Escamilla recorded his first strikeout. Alliance had an opportunity to get on the scoreboard in the top of the second. Hits by Thompson and Creighton Fritzler gave the Peltz Co. some hope. Brester responded with a strikeout and a ground out to dash the Alliance rally. Another K by Escamilla held Lincoln without any scores in the bottom of the second. Alliance had another great chance in the third.

Clarke reached after getting hit by a pitch and advanced on a single by Escamilla. A Spartan pop out would end the Alliance threat. The momentum then went to the side of Brester as Lincoln would score three runs in the bottom of the third. Using 3 singles and 2 walks, Brester took a 3 to 0 lead after three innings of play.

In inning 4, Alliance got into the scoring column. Garcia was hit by a pitch and stole second. Espen Lanik was next and his RBI single plated Garcia. Lincoln answered back with 2 runs of their own in the bottom of inning #4. Brester scored runs using 2 hits and an error by Alliance to increase their advantage to 5 to 1. The Peltz Co came back to tie the game in the top of the fifth. A double by Thompson started the comeback. Kobe Strom walked to continue the action. An RBI hit by Kegan Nelson ensued that sliced the Spartan deficit to 3. Jaxson Martinez then loaded the bases with an Alliance single.

The affair was then tied when Garcia cleared the bags with a double. Brester followed with a single run of their own in the bottom of the fifth. With 2 outs, the club from Lincoln used 2 walks and a single to surge ahead 6 to 5. The Peltz Co would go 1-2-3 in the sixth and down in order in the seventh as Brester went on for the 6 to 5 win.
