Public Works Responds to Two Water Main Breaks

The City of Alliance Public Works Department had a long day on Monday as they responded to two water main breaks.

Ross Grant, Public Works Superintendent said the crew began their day at 6 a.m., responding to the first broken water main in the 600 block of West Third Street on Monday morning.

“An old service line that had been abandoned underneath the state highway broke,” said Grant. “So, we had to dig up the main on the north side of the road and shut off the corporation stop. Then we had to patch the hole.”

Grant explained that the second water main that broke was located in the 1100 block of West Third Street.

“I don’t know what the cause is, but it was probably just aging pipe,” Grant said. “We had a section of main that had a break, and we finished working on it at about 10 o’clock (Monday) and came back (Tuesday) to finish some of the clean up for the hole and do some concrete work on the surface.”

According to a press release from the City of Alliance, residents between Howard and Williamette Avenues were without water while the main was being repaired. Grant said that water services were restored after the completion of the repairs.
