Reflections for the Week of May 16-20

Public Works:

• Grade work completed on Rodeo grounds road and on sewer lake road.

• Monday, May 16th was extremely busy with a water break at 1115 W 3rd St. followed by another water break at 612 W. 3rd St.

• Concrete repair at 1115 W. 3rd St.

• 586 transit riders this week.

• Landfill 639 tons of refuse this week.

Finance:

• The City received notice of March sales taxes in the amount of almost $208,000 which exceeded last year’s record amount by over 12.5%!

Parks:

• Preparing to open the pool on May 28th!

• Preparing the fountain at Central Park.

• Preparing the Alliance Cemetery for Memorial Day.

• Mowing and landscaping has begun in earnest.

• Began clearing excess brush from the creek.

• Updated the computer at the Alliance Cemetery kiosk.

Police Admin:

• State Radio System Meeting.

• Meeting with Lumen regarding 911 software services.

• VIP Coordinator Meeting.

• Numerous software contract meetings to ensure proper billing for 2023 budget and adequate services.

• Datalytics Meeting, with prototypes approved. Need to fix a data link and it should be live in two weeks on the PD website.

• Auditor Meetings for CALEA Accreditation.

• DOVES meeting for a mutual agreement on best practices for both entities working together with victims.

Police Communications/Intelligence:

• Coordinated 623 calls for service.

• Completed 0 report requests.

• 0 firearms permits issued.

• Revising Code Red for spring.

Police Operations:

• 6 Child Welfare Investigations.

• 3 DUI, 28 Traffic Stops.

• 5 accidents.

• 0 K9 deployments.

• 162 Building Checks.

• 39 Community Contacts/Business Checks.

• 16 Active Investigations.

Animal Control:

• 26 Animal Calls.

• 2 Dog Impounds. 2 dogs currently in the shelter.

• 0 Cat Impounds. 2 cats currently in the shelter.

Code Enforcement:

• 27 Code enforcement issues.

Notable Service:

• Grand neighborhood meeting held.

• Know your force: Maintaining 5 out of 5 rating from those contacted.

Airport:

• New employee started today!

• Mowing and sweeping of airfield surfaces.

• FAA inspection is scheduled for June 21st & 22nd. The records portion of the inspection will take place the week before.

• FAA runway pavement inspection took place this week.

Electric:

• Finished the three phase rebuild project on HWY 385 across from Chiff feedlot.

• Performed line maintenance on Valley Road east of HWY 385.

• Started a three phase rebuild project on CR 63 south of Sarpy Road.

• Completed installation of light pole bases and installed underground pipe for wiring of new lights at tennis court.

• Attended MEAN meeting in Kearney on Thursday.

HR:

• Completed 2 days of Seasonal Hiring Workshops and met with 28 new and returning seasonal employees. Tracking and processing for these employees will be completed over the next 2-3 weeks to ensure accurate reporting and compliance on all new hires.

• Onboarding with new full time employees conducted for Electric Department and Airport.

• Conducting interviews with multiple departments for full and part-time positions.

• Led the WNHRA meeting in Scottsbluff.

• The department continues to accept applications for Public Works Seasonal Positions, as well as Police Officer, Dispatcher, Fire Apparatus Engineer/EMT, Transit Driver, and Street Maintenance Worker.

BBDC:

• Last week Chelsie Herian, BBDC Director attended the NEDA Annual Conference in Valentine where she made valuable connections in housing and was elected NEDA Board Treasurer.

• Prepping for Interns to arrive next week – academy for a couple days then they officially begin May 31; Snapshot of each intern are posted on Facebook.

• Attended virtual Heartland Expressway Board Meeting Thursday; HEA Annual Meeting TBD but will be hosted in Alliance; Ports to Plains annual conference is September 14-16 in Big Spring, TX.

• Looking into possibility of re-establishing Alliance/BBC Community Foundation.

• Meeting virtually with UNL Placemaking Professors later today.
