Alliance Public Schools is progressing with the renovation of the Burkholder Building as they prepare to utilize it for Kiddie Kampus.
In December, the Alliance School Board voted to terminate a lease with Box Butte General Hospital, which would save the district an estimated $20,000, and to move Kiddie Kampus to the Burkholder Building.
At their meeting on Monday, the board voted to approve bids for projects at the building. Superintendent Dr. Troy Unzicker said there was a call for bids for three parts of the project, but that committees requested only two be brought before the board: for sinks and lighting.
The board received one bid for the sinks from Faris Plumbing, totaling $2,834.92. The board unanimously voted to approve the bid.
The board received two bids for the lighting, Dr. Unzicker said, noting the facilities committee recommended the low bid from Triangle Electric for $8,321.
“I read there were 44 lights,” said Board Member Josh Freiberger. “Is that one of those things where it’s mandated by the state for engineering?”
Dr. Unzicker noted that the number accurately reflects the number of lights in the building.
“That just seemed like a lot of lights,” Freiberger said. “With LED, I thought maybe we could cut that down a little bit. But if that’s what’s there, that’s what’s there.”
The board voted unanimously to approve the bid for lighting. In other action, the board also approved moving their regular meeting to Feb. 13 at 7 p.m.
