Public Works:
• Street department concrete pour south side of high school.
• NDOT – 3rd St. project nearing completion.
• Water Department installation of new chlorine injector west well field.
• Transit 510 riders this week.
• State of Nebraska sanitary surveys for Carhenge and airport water systems.
• 386 tons of refuse received at landfill this week.
Fire:
• Building permit issued by Community Development for the fire department training center footings.
• Mobile Hydrostatic testing of SCBA cylinders.
• Implementation of FlowMSP continues.
HR:
• HR is busy adding employee information to our system with 27 new seasonal and regular employees starting in the last week!
• Welcome to our new regular employees who began work in May:
o Jack Hottell – Airport
o Tucker Hill – Electric Department
o Curtis Ward – Transit.
• Continue to accept applications for Street Maintenance Worker, Water/Sewer Maintenance Worker, Part-Time Transit driver, Police Officer, Fire Apparatus Engineer/EMT, and Public Safety Dispatcher.
• Developing additional employee resources for training and benefits overview.
• Attended monthly state-wide SHRM meeting.
Electric:
• Continue to work on the three phase rebuild project south of Sarpy Road on CR 63.
• All poles and fixtures installed for the tennis court lighting project.
• All personnel of electric department were re-certified on digger truck operation and maintenance as part of our monthly NECC safety meeting.
• We had a few irrigation well electrical issues as operators have begun irrigating.
• Performed maintenance and replacement on various streetlights.
Pool:
• Swim lesson registration continues.
• Ordered concession and cleaning supplies for the season.
• Conducted training for new and returning guards. Developed a staffing schedule for the first several weeks of pool operation.
• Set up and programmed cash registers, cleaned and sanitized the bath house, vacuumed the pool several times to remove settled debris from the floor of the pool in preparation for season opening on May 28th!
Parks & Cemetery:
• With a monumental push this week, the Parks and Cemetery crews are prepared for Memorial Day!
o Mowed, trimmed and collected clippings at the Cemetery.
o Mowed all ballfields twice and cleaned up clippings when necessary.
o Mowed and trimmed all the large parks.
o Filled and cleaned the fountain, replaced lights and worked on programming.
• Work to open the pool on May 28th:
o Power washed the locker-rooms at the Pool.
o Painted areas of the pool that didn’t come clean after power washing.
o Repaired several umbrellas before putting up new canvas.
o Installed the canvas cover over the deck of the water slide.
RSVP & Senior Center:
• Continued to serve meals in the dining room and to individuals at home through meals on wheels.
• Worked on planning summer activities for the Senior Center.
Golf:
• We are seeing more course use as weather improves. The course is looking great. Now is a great time to enjoy a round!
• Inventory slowly continues to arrive. Some deliveries that are arriving now were expected in March.
• Junior Golf registration continues and is going well.
• Will host the Veteran Cemetery Memorial Tournament over the weekend.
Museum:
• Catered for the Railroad.
• Prepared information for grave witching demonstration at the Alliance Cemetery May 28.
• Prepared records to assist public over Memorial Weekend at the Alliance Cemetery.
• Had last school tour for the year with students from Scottsbluff.
• Hosted Jeff Barnes’ Humanities Council Program about Landmarks in Nebraska.
• Assembled artifacts to change out Theater exhibits for the summer months.
• Working on 3 future public presentations.
• Welcomed Bailey Johnson as our summer intern.
Library:
• The library team has been very busy this week with the beginning of the summer reading program. We have all enjoyed the busy days here in the library and the added level of commotion this event brings. Believe it or not, sometimes librarians do like noise—especially when it involves kids getting excited about being here! Children’s Librarian Cynthia Horn has been a welcoming and gracious host this week to all the kids and parents who have been coming in. She truly has a gift for making patrons feel at home here.
• Library Clerk Kris Wilder has created an amazing tropical beach display of summer reads—come check it out! Kris makes the library experience fun and enjoyable for all our patrons!
• Library Clerk Pam Becker is working hard at cleaning up records in order to better serve the patrons. Pam’s record keeping skills are a large part of what keeps the library running smoothly!
• Technical Services Librarian Nalani Stewart has been investigating ways in which the library can help patrons seeking to use telehealth options. We have a great space to conduct these meetings, and can offer assistance and hardware to gain access. Nalani’s tech skills coupled with her personality are very encouraging to patrons who have questions or need help. She is very much appreciated by them, and us!
• Adult Services Librarian Emily Nelson hosted the Jonis Agee author visit this week to discuss her book “Bones of Paradise”. Jonis met for a discussion and lunch with the library book club at noon on Tuesday. Then, that evening, Jonis did a presentation on her book. Emily is a terrific host!
• Huge kudos to Library Director Stephanie O’Connor graduated Sunday with her Masters in Library Science from the University of Missouri! We are very proud of Her! It is great to see City employees making extra efforts to serve the citizens of Alliance! As if that were not enough, she is now enrolling in a program with the Medical Library Association for certification to assist patrons in their search for medical, heath, and wellness information.

• Alliance Middle School was issued a permit to replace their HVAC system.
• AVFD was issued a permit to begin work on their fire training facility on West 1st Street.
• Footing for the drive through covering at Platte Valley Bank (217 W 3rd) were poured and façade improvements began.
BBDC:
• Tuesday & Wednesday this week was spent on ‘Academy’ with the 3 interns – getting to know each other, strengths, how to work as a team and updated projects. Tuesday night held Host Team Meet & Greet so students have an idea of who all is involved with projects. Interns first official day working in Alliance is Tuesday, May 31.
• Attended Runza Ribbon Cutting.
Chamber:
• The Chamber Ambassadors presented Safeway with the Spotlight banner for June.
• The Chamber Ambassadors held a ribbon cutting at Runza.
• Finish details for Heritage Days, July 12 – July 17.
