The Alliance Times-Herald has selected Trish Hartshorn to be the recipient of the $510 raised from the 2022 Giving Hope section following a random drawing.
Hartshorn was nominated by Pasha Korber and has been battling cancer for about one year. In her nomination, Korber explained that Hartshorn’s optimism throughout the battle has been a beacon of hope.
“Trish is a loving and hard working mother, companion, friend, and all around caring Human Being,” said Korber. “She loves life, and even through the onset and knowledge of having a Breast Cancer diagnosis, she has displayed positivity of thought, strength to go into the fight and win it and choosing to continue to live for herself, her children, and the love of her pets that she cares for.”
Korber cited Hartshorn as a positive example of the goodness that can be found in the world.
“I nominate Trish Hartshorn for the recognition from ATH Giving Hope so that her personal hope to succeed and win every day in life is gifted back to anyone and everyone who is seeking to find their own choice for hope in our everyday lives,” Korber said. “Goodness always wins, and there are more good people in this world than there are bad. Trish chooses to be one of the good people and recognizing her choice will shine light on all the goodness in our world and our loving small community.”
This is the second year the Alliance Times-Herald has given the proceeds raised from the Giving Hope section to someone in the community battling cancer to help offset the expenses that rise from treatment. Kathryn Friedrichsen, Alliance Times-Herald Co-Publisher developed the idea for Giving Hope in 2021. She explained the idea behind changing the section name from Hope For A Cure to Giving Hope.
“For a person battling cancer, unfortunately there is not a lot we are able to do for them. The one thing we can do is give a donation that can hopefully help them in some small way, which I would like to believe is an act of giving hope. Survivors and those battling cancer show us strength, so this donation is the least we can do. We are so grateful to the businesses who participated in this section and helped make this donation possible. Talking with Trish while taking her photo, it was nice to meet someone new and hear her inspirational story,” Kathryn Friedrichsen said.
Shaun Friedrichsen, Alliance Times-Herald Co-Publisher, said the Alliance Times-Herald was able to help someone in the community as they face a tough battle.
“Cancer is a horrible disease, and one of the leading causes of death in the United States,” said Shaun Friedrichsen. “In the face of something so horrid, we want to give people the resources they need to fight that battle, and we are happy to be able to support Trish as she courageously continues the fight.”
