Reflections for the Week of May 1-5

Administration:

• Began summer hours, Monday – Thursday 7:00 am – 5:00 pm, Friday 7:00 am – 11:00 am.

• Congratulations to Shelbi Pitt, new City Clerk for the City of Alliance! Shelbi was appointed at the May 2nd City Council Meeting.

• Tourism announced Bands on the Bricks dates, June 9th, June 23rd, July 7th, July 21st, July 22nd. Line-up to be announced soon!

Water/Sewer:

• Carhenge, Airport and Weekly water samples.

• Chlorine residuals.

• De-winterized pivots and got them running.

• Cleaned up 7th and Sweetwater.

• Fixed broken pipe under pit at Bower, dug up and repaired.

• 28 Work orders.

• 75 Locates.

• Vactored out fire hall pit.

• Jetted all trouble sewer lines, 600 feet.

• Changed 5 drops on pivots and repaired hole in one tower.

• 4-inch sewer tap on Emerson.

Streets:

• Street sweeping.

• Finished alley grading.

• Assisted parks with irrigation.

• Cleaned over pass and under pass.

• Pre-assembled signs for replacement.

• Patched potholes.

Notable Service:

• Satisfaction rating 91%.

Electric:

• We installed two new poles and transformer banks to upgrade existing irrigation well services.

• Removed the scoreboard at Bower-Shankland baseball field and installed new support poles.

• Waiting on replacement parts before installing scoreboard.

• All staff attended monthly NECC safety meeting.

• Installed a replacement re-closure on Keith Road and CR 63.

• Repaired/replaced streetlights as needed.

• Working with WAPA on details of planned power outage for May 21.

Community Development:

• Advertising for a Permit Technician.

• Building Permits: 10 building permits for a total improvement value of $136,550.

• Excavation Permits: 3 permits.

• Plumbing and mechanical permits: 10 plumbing and mechanical permits.

• Zoning Permits: 6 zoning permits.

• Projects:

o Westco Tire Shop: Sewer service installed to 10th Street, getting ready to bore under the street.

o Heartland Flats: Electricians and plumbers are doing their installations.

o Library HVAC: Installation is estimated at about 80% done.

o Started accepting bids for condemned house demolitions. Will accept bids until May 18.

o Will stop accepting bids for the City wide phone system replacement on May 10th.

• Planning Commission – May 9th

o One and Six Year Street plan.

o Zoning district designation change renaming the single family residential districts. No actual rezones occurring.

o Transportation component of the proposed Comprehensive Plan updates.

• Board of Adjustment

o No meeting in April.

Airport:

• Staff attended Live Burn training at Ellsworth Air Force Base. This is an annual requirement to remain ARFF (Aircraft Rescue & Firefighting) certified.

• ARFF station and truck cleaned.

• Monthly ARFF training conducted Wednesday evening.

• Special inspection of airfield marking and signs during daylight hours was conducted on Thursday. Sign and paint orders are based on these inspections.

• Annual service and repairs were done on the airfield windsocks.

• T-hangar door drive motor repaired.

• Conducted training on inspections of airfield during construction.

• Taxiway/Apron Rehabilitation Project.

• Provided information and pictures to a possible contractor for preliminary inspection of MALSR lighting system on the airfield.

• Annual Generator Inspections scheduled.

Fire:

• Staffed participated in annual FAA live-burn training at Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota.

• Weekly Department Training: ARFF.

• Chief attended Scotts Bluff County Mutual Aid Fire Chief’s meeting.

Library:

• Prepared the adult monthly stats for the Director’s Report, planned summer reading programs for Adults, and collected suggestions for the July-October APL Book Club meetings.

• Hosted Fiber Arts Club, and the book club at Highland Park Care Center. Also created a display for Mental Health Awareness month and cataloged new Fiction materials.

• Story Time feature this week is Zooming Through Space and one of our adult patrons, Granny B, is excited to volunteer regularly with Story Time.

• On Tuesday, LEGO Club continued building their masterpieces. April Stats were documented plus ongoing projects include backpacks and updating displays.

• “All Together Now” Summer Reading, plus a special Story Time visit to Immanuel Lutheran on Friday with kindergarten and first grade classes.

• Compiled the statistics for the April Director’s Report.

• Made weekly Book Mobile deliveries, processed Interlibrary loans, and assisted patrons.

Golf:

• Hosted a Callaway fitting day.

• Membership sales are up significantly over last year.

• The course has been extremely busy when the weather is good.

• Junior Golf sign up has begun.

• Fish that winterkilled were removed from the lake.

Parks:

• Repaired a broken irrigation main line at Bower.

• Turned irrigation and make repairs as needed in Central park, Fountain block, and Laing Lake.

• Repaired several sections of fence top rail at Bower.

• Installed crushed concrete at the old tennis courts in an effort to better stabilize the south bank

• Started installation of the rubber weed guard that will go under the fence to reduce the need for trimming along the fence

• Started working on the fencing around the dugouts at the Softball complex.

• Met with the tree trimming contractor to identify trees for trimming and removal.

• Finished up the rubber weed guard on B field at Softball and the swimming pool.

• Sprayed under all the chain link fences at the Ballfields with Growth Inhibitor.

• Street Department assisted with parking lot improvements at Bower Park.

• Seasonal staff started to help keep areas mowed while other projects get completed.

RSVP & Senior Center:

• Nutrition site staff continued to provide dining room and delivery meals for the community.

• Staff is making plans to start up Wednesday bingo at the center again.

• Preparing for the RSVP Recognition Dinner.

Museum:

• Hosted multiple school tours many from neighboring communities

• APS foundation fundraiser finished up. The event was a success.

• The museum is hosting a Nebraska sunset photo contest. All entries are available for viewing at the museum.

• Hosted the monthly scrapbooking event.

• Worked with Redman’s shoes on getting some donations for the Museum.
