Marion Louise Moscrip, 84, of Canton, MI, passed away on July 29, 2023. She was born on March 19, 1939, in Alliance, Nebraska, to James M. and Doris E. (Cooper) DeFrance.
Marion was a caring, funny, and loving mother, as well as a devoted friend. She had a passion for working on the family history and spent countless hours cataloging it for future generations. Marion was also deeply committed to education and had a successful career as a teached. She found great joy in nature and cherished the opportunity to live with her son.
Marion is survived by her son, Michael William (Marta M. Calderon-) Moscrip of Canton, Michigan; her grandson and his fiancé, Nicholas Ramon (Calderon (Taylor) Moscrip) of Austin, Texas; and her granddaughter, Lili Jehanne (Calderon) Moscrip of Ann Arbor, Michigan. She is also survived by her sister, Kathleen McFarland of Lake City, Florida, and her brother, Michael S. DeFrance of Petaluma, California. She was preceded in death by her spouse, George William Moscrip; her brother, James M. DeFrance; her nephew, Cody McFarland; and her parents.
Marion pursued higher education at the University of Colorado at Boulder and Chadron State College. Throughout her career, she worked as a teacher at a Country School in Alliance, Nebraska, and a substitute teacher in Alliance Public Schools. She was a freelance writer for X-press news and genealogical research editor. Marion was particularly proud of her five years as secretary and Board President on the Alliance Board of Education. She was honored to have been appointed to serve on the Nebraska Commission on the Status of Women as Vice Chair and Chair. Marion took comfort in her Episcopalian Faith.
In her free time, Marion enjoyed painting and genealogical research, particularly focusing on the Moscrip, Cooper, DeFrance, and Peterson families.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date. The Funeral Home of Vermeulen-Sajewski will be providing cremation services.
Marion Louise Moscrip will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her legacy of love, laughter, and dedication to education will be cherished for generations to come.
