APS Tax Hearing Cancelled

A special tax hearing for the Alliance Public School District on Sept. 20 has been cancelled after the district received news that their asking value will not exceed 2.2 percent.

APS Superintendent Dr. Troy Unzicker explained in an email announcing the cancellation that the hearing was advertised by postcard and was mandated based on a projected increase of more than 2.2 percent.

“We have received a correction and with the new information we are happy to announce we will not be required to hold this meeting,” said Unzicker. “The total asking value will not exceed the 2.2% number. The asking rate which the school district has not changed in over 10 years will actually drop by close to 5 cents. We will still be able to maintain our projection of paying off all debts by 2025, including the Performing Arts Center.”

The district still intends to host a special meeting on Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. in the boardroom of the Administration Building.

“Two hearings will be run to hear support, opposition, criticism, suggestions or observations of taxpayers on both the budget and the tax request before the board takes action on the agenda items,” said Unzicker.
