BBGH Board Hears Update on Building Blocks Playschool Construction

The Box Butte General Hospital (BBGH) Board of Trustees (Board) meeting was called to order at noon Monday, Sept. 25, in the BBGH Alliance Room. This month’s agenda included the regular agenda covering Quality and Information Technology updates, as well as information on the Building Blocks Playschool timeline and Nebraska Hospital Association (NHA) Political Action Committee (PAC) call for contributions.

Chief Operations Officer Jim Bargen updated the Board on the status of the Building Blocks Playschool construction, which is on track. Playground equipment is being installed by the BBGH Maintenance team. An open house of the space will be hosted before the facility is officially opened.

“The State Fire Marshal final inspection is scheduled for Sept. 28th,” Bargen said. “Once approval is granted by the Fire Marshal and the City we can begin occupying the building. We anticipate the Building Blocks Playschool and Maintenance staff to begin moving in and setting up the childcare equipment on Oct. 2nd. After that, our opening date is dependent on the Nebraska DHHS inspection and licensing.”

Chief Executive Officer Lori Mazanec mentioned BBGH’s leadership, administration, and Board were last year’s NHA PAC Champions for the amount of funds raised. The NHA PAC is “a fund supported through contributions of hospital administrators and staff that are then distributed to those individuals running for office identified as recognizing the importance of health care in Nebraska” according to nebraskahospitals.org.

“Advocacy is a team sport at the NHA,” Mazanec said. “It takes all the member hospitals to support the efforts, including BBGH, of developing key relationships and cultivating support with our local representatives and state senators.”

New BBGH employees include: Radiographer Tracey Hamilton, Electronic Medical Records Tech Ally Thibeault, Insurance Billing Specialist Mario Drummond, Teaching Assistants Abbi Serl and Natasha Ochoa, Teacher Kiersten Green, and Rehab Tech Carli Cullan. The Board also recognized September Employee of the Month Clinical Informatics Nurse Deana Andrews.

The Board went into executive session to discuss a litigation matter. The meeting adjourned at 12:52 p.m. with no action taken. The next BBGH Board meeting is Monday, October 30, at noon in the Alliance Room. The public is welcome to attend.
