Reflections for the Week of Oct. 23-27

Water/Sewer:

Built pipe bracing for Burnham well.

Cleaned chlorine injectors at Burnham, Elkhorn, Colorado wells and chlorine plant.

Installed new sample spigots at Burnham and 18th and Colorado wells.

Assisted with lift at museum.

Had new sewer jet guides made for Vactor and installed a new one.

Shut down Grand Lake trailer court 3 times for plumber to fix leaks.

Tore pump 4 check valve apart at Lift station A, got pumps back online.

Checked heaters in all wells and lift stations.

Changed seal fittings on lift stations.

25 locates.

14 utility office work orders.

Weekly water samples and chlorine residuals.

Landfill:

261 customers.

322.25 tons.

Remaining dumpsters built.

State inspections

Standard maintenance on all equipment.

Moved bales. Laid cover.

Ongoing baler replacement program.

Transit:

663 riders.

One new employee trained and driving solo.

Streets:

Graded E 8th, E 9th, Elkhorn, W 2nd, Howard.

Clean drains around town.

Sweep and trained on sweeper.

Program cross walk signs.

Loader training.

Put locates in for new signs. Haul leaves to landfill.

Put rock on W. 6th St.

Get new crosswalk stuff ready for next week.

RSVP & Senior Center:

The RSVP program gained six new volunteers this week.

The Bingo event with the lineman school was a success with 30 seniors and students enjoying an afternoon of bingo games.

Staff completed and submitted the grant application for continuing funding for the RSVP program.

Staff is preparing for a Memory Support Care Group which will be open to all and held at the Senior Center every other Monday beginning November 6th at 11am.

Parks:

Continued painting the dugout shelters at the softball complex.

Started fall leaf pick up in areas where the leaves were down.

Brought in mowers from the cemetery and converted them to be used for snow removal.

Replaced some parts on the snow equipment and greased it so it is ready for snow.

Closed and winterized the restrooms at Laing lake and Central park and the concession stand at the softball complex.

Assisted in cleaning up and hanging signs in the Museum.

Began servicing summer equipment for winter storage.

Museum:

We now carry the Alan Bartels book “100 things to do in the Nebraska Sandhills before you die.” Alliance is mentioned seven times with the Knight Museum and Carhenge – each getting a full page!

Building was rented for a baby shower.

We have added five new signs to our ever growing local sign collection. We are always on the lookout for local signage.

Several displays have been added or changed with the addition of Mabel Worley’s desk and several items from Redmans and Howard & Lenlas.

Our Theater displays have new lighting installed for better visibility.

A fox, river otter and trout have been added to the animal menagerie. The kids will love them!

Christmas preparations are in full swing. Call 762-2384 if you are interested in helping by either making an item for the festival or helping decorate the museum.

The Memorial trees will be going up mid-November so if you want to drop by with an ornament for a lost loved one, you can do that anytime.

Golf Course:

Normal maintenance continued at the course. Everything will slow down substantially with the lower temperatures.

Electric:

We replaced 4 “reject” poles.

Started a single phase to three phase conversion on Rock Road and CR 64

Energized a new service for a new grain bin.

Repaired or replaced several streetlights.

Met with Engineer to discuss solar field issues.

Performed vehicle inspections and performed maintenance.

Airport:

Attended Box Butte County Prairie Dog Advisory Board meeting.

Continue to work on MALSR situation. Trying to get company approved to do inspections until a permanent solution can be found.

Review applications for vacancy at airport. Working on updating and improving questions for interviews that will take place next week.

Weekly ARFF truck inspections completed.

Cleared tumbleweeds from airfield fence.

Snow preparation work completed.

Staff finalized and submitted Cyber Security paperwork and fingerprints.

HR:

Working with department heads and supervisors to assist departments with requests on administrative tasks.

Updating and verifying employee information in the Paylocity HRIS.

Managing the random drug and alcohol program for FTA and FMCSA compliance.

Completing the new setup for Benefits Management between our third party administrator RCI and our HRIS system for improved accuracy and record keeping along with streamlining benefits enrollment for employees.

Administering applicant testing for Police Officer positions and scheduling upcoming interviews.

Completing pre-employment conditions for pending new hires.

BBDC:

Toured the Memory Care Unit at Hemingford Community Care Center Tuesday with new administrator Char Zander.

Attended Career Connections bi-monthly zoom call – continue to plan the Northern Hub Career Cab with Chadron.

Attended NEDA monthly board zoom call.

Attended Monthly Ambassadors meeting: The Animal Center Spotlight, Alliance Rec Center visitation, and lunch/meeting at DQ.

Continue to prep for BBDC Annual Meeting November 17th @9am – BBDC Office.
