DHHS Announces Support Waiver

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Division of Developmental Disabilities is pleased to announce Nebraska’s newest Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) waiver, the Family Support Waiver (FSW). This waiver began March 1, 2024, and will provide services to 850 children, ages birth to 21 years old with intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD) currently on the Developmental Disabilities Registry. Each participant has a maximum annual budget of $10,000.

“The purpose of this waiver is to provide support and allow families to live and grow together,” said Tony Green, Director of the Division of Developmental Disabilities. “Supporting Nebraska families and children with IDD is vital in strengthening our communities and ensuring that all Nebraskans live better lives.”

The Family Support Waiver provides services to individuals with IDD through the age of 21 years old who are eligible and live with their family. A participant must have a developmental disability and meet the level of care for an intermediate care facility for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

The Division of Developmental Disabilities has identified individuals on the DD Registry who would receive priority for the Family Support Waiver based on priorities outlined in Neb. Rev. Stat. §68-1532. The division has been in contact with these families and provided information and support regarding their eligibility for services under the new Family Support Waiver. Additionally, the division has been working with current HCBS providers to support them in the transition to offering FSW services.
