BBGH Board Hears of Dr. Shelmadine’s Sabbatical

The Box Butte General Hospital (BBGH) Board of Trustees meeting was called to order at noon Monday, April, 29, in the Alliance Room of BBGH. This month’s agenda included a brief update from Chief Medical Officer Dr. Brian Shelmadine and recognition of the 2024-25 Box Butte Health Foundation (BBHF) and BBGH scholarship recipients. The March financial statement, consent calendar, and credentials were all approved as presented.

During the meeting, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Brian Shelmadine announced that, starting May 10, he will be taking a clinical sabbatical over the summer to focus on his administrative duties. While on his sabbatical, Dr. Vanessa Pinto, who will be arriving at BBGH soon, will be stepping in to cover Dr. Shelmadine’s clinical duties. Dr. Shelmadine plans to return to his clinical duties in September.

Chief Executive Officer Lori Mazanec also shared the names of the recipients of the 2024-25 BBGH and BBHF scholarship with the Board. Each year, BBGH and BBHF awards 15 scholarships to high school seniors and current college students of Box Butte, Dawes, Morrill, Grant, and Sheridan counties that are interested in the healthcare field. This year, the Board approved a scholarship amount of $2,000 to be awarded to each recipient.

High school recipients of the BBGH scholarship included Regan Braun, Kalli Bridge Jaelynne Clarke, Dax Powell, and Carlie Schneider. College recipients included Kylie Casados, Madison Hiemstra, Kelsey Horton, Cydney Strotheide, and Connor Blumenthal.

Recipients of the BBHF scholarship included Lynette Hillyer, Riley Lawrence, Sydney Allard, Regan Lambert, and Abigail Burri.

New employees recognized during the meeting included Wellness Center Lead/Group Fitness Instructor Nicole Schnell, Phlebotomist Ashley Rodriguez, Lab Tech Mandy From, and Billing Specialists Bob Neville and Erin O’Donnell. The Board also recognized the April Employee of the Month, Chart Auditor Alice Dubs.

The Board went into Executive Session at 12:51 p.m. The meeting was adjourned at 1:19 p.m., with no action taken.
