On Tuesday night the Alliance Peltz Co Prep squad hosted Gering in a doubleheader. The Spartans rallied from an early 2 to 0 deficit and defeated the guests 11 to 2 in the opener. Starting pitcher Carson Stull went the distance for Alliance, allowing just 6 hits while walking only one and striking out 4 Gering hitters. At the plate the Peltz Co used 8 hits and 5 walks to roll to the victory.
Catcher Tanner Salcido led Alliance, going 2 for 3. On defense shortstop Jay Shelmadine had 6 assists in the win.
Two put outs by Shelmadine on defense began the night for Alliance. With 2 outs in the top of the first it was Gering getting on the scoreboard. The visitors used 3 errors by the Spartans, a walk, and a hit to plate 2 runs. Alliance would go silently in the bottom of the inning and the game went to the second with Gering ahead 2 to 0. A Stull strikeout plus another fine play at short by Shelmadine denied Gering any runs in the guest half of the second. The Peltz Co bats then came alive in the last half of the second as Alliance tallied 6 big runs. Xander Narjes reached on a Gering error to start the scoring. Miguel Galvan walked and that was followed by back to back hits from Kyler Hamel and Casyn Nelson.
Right fielder Gabe Dorenback then got on with another miscue by Gering that scored Alliance’s first runs. An RBI groundout by Mason Winter added another Spartan run.
A Shelmdine triple was next and it scored 2 more Alliance runs. The inning ended with a 2 RBI hit by Salcido and the Spartans taking a 6 to 2 lead. Both teams failed to score in the third as the contest moved to the fourth with Peltz Co still out in front 6 to 2. Gering would get 2 hits in the inning but another K by Stull stopped the rally. In the bottom of the fourth the Spartans increased their margin by scoring 5 more runs. A single by Winter began the inning and he scored on a Gering balk. With one out Cisco Cody walked and scored on a Salcido double.
The Spartans closed out the inning with 3 more runs. Kyler Adams, running for Salcido, then scored on a wild pitch to Alliance up 9 to 2. With 2 outs Eban Lore walked and scored on another Gering wild pitch. An RBI single by Spartan Drayden Konopnicki finished the scoring with the Peltz Co out in front 11 to 2 heading to the fifth and final inning. Stull ended his solid start with a scoreless frame as the Spartans went on for the 11 to 2 win.
