Medical Equipment Rescue and Reuse Event Scheduled in Scottsbluff

The Nebraska Recycling Council (NRC) is proud to announce its Rescue and Reuse events for durable medical equipment (DME) across the state. These events are scheduled for Lincoln and Scottsbluff in the summer of 2024, and Omaha and Kearney in the spring of 2025.

The goal of these events is to provide a sustainable solution for unused DME, benefiting both the environment and the community. Wheelchairs, scooters, hospital beds — all these items can have a second life with NRC’s four rescue and reuse events, which will serve roughly half of Nebraska’s population.

DME often contain materials like batteries that can harm the environment if not disposed of properly. Additionally, the size and weight of DME make disposal challenging, while the high cost of new equipment can be prohibitive for many individuals. Because of these barriers to recycling, DME often end up in the landfill. This is why the NRC’s Rescue and Reuse events are particularly necessary in neighborhoods across Nebraska.

The public is invited to drop off equipment they no longer need or find equipment to use at home. Rescued usable items will be available for the public to pick up for free. Unusable items will be sustainably disposed of through certified recyclers.
