October’s Dwindling Daylight

October is the time of year that we see a rather dramatic shift in the amount of sunlight we get each day. On October 1, we see 11 hours and 42 minutes of daylight, so almost 12 hours, which makes sense, since the beginning of fall just happened. But by the end of the month, we down to 10 hours and 21 minutes.

That’s almost an hour and a half less sun! If you’re an early riser, you’ll notice that a lot of our loss of daylight comes in the morning. The sunrise on October 1 is at 6:31 p.m. It’s at 7:03 a.m. on October 14, and by the end of the month, the sun is coming up at 7:23 p.m. The sunset time is when most of us notice the biggest change in sunlight per day.

The sun goes down at 6:31 p.m. to start the month of October, but by the end of the month, it’s going down at 5:45 p.m.! And if that sounds early, just wait until the time changes (daylight saving time ends) in November. After that, the sun rise goes back to rising during the 6 o’clock hour but goes down in the 4 o’clock hour. By the end of November, the sun sets at 4:20 p.m.!

Forecast discussion for the week ahead:

What’s left of Hurricane Helene is now an area of low pressure and it’s a little cut off from outside influence. This means that it is stuck in the eastern US and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. For us, that means whatever weather we are seeing now, we will likely see for the next several days. And that means dry and sunny into next week!
