On Saturday, October 12 Alliance hosted the Western Conference volleyball tournament. Six schools in 2 pools participated in the event. Pool A schools taking part in games at Alliance High were top seeded Gering along with Alliance and Chadron. At Alliance Middle School, Sidney, Scottsbluff, and Mitchell were the teams. Alliance opened the tourney with a win over Chadron 25-17 25-23.
Set #1 against Chadron, AHS pulled away midway through in getting the victory. Early points by Alliance’s Josie Sanders and Ryli Poss helped the Bulldogs take a quick lead at 4 to 2. Tied at 4, Alliance got a kill from Shyla Salcido and 4 points by Taylee Thompson to surge ahead by 5. Thompson recorded an ace serve during the run. Two kills by AHS junior Alexis Lisack ensued as Alliance kept their margin at 13 to 7. Up 19 to 12, 2 points by Bulldog Addison Weber followed that put Alliance out in front 21 to 12. Chadron would get within 6 but kills by Sanders, Poss, and Weber finished off the Card comeback. First set went to AHS 25 to 17.
Momentum stayed with the Lady Bulldogs in the opening minutes of set 2. Tied at 1, AHS ran off 6 straight points to move out to a 7 to 1. Poss tallied the 6 points for Alliance with the Dogs getting kills by Weber and Thompson. A point by Bulldog Macey Seebohm followed with the score now standing at 11 to 5. Chadron responded with an impressive run of their own. The Cardinals put 10 consecutive tallies on the board and took a 15 to 11 lead before a kill by Poss ended the rally. Still down, AHS went to work with plays by Sanders and Weber to slice their deficit to 2 at 17 to 15. Three straight points by Poss helped by ace spikes by Salcido and Weber gave Alliance a brief lead at 19 to 18. The battle continued to be tight with the game tied at 19 and 20. Two Weber points made the score 23 to 20 in favor of the hosts. Set 2 finally went to Alliance as the Dogs got the final point and posted a win at 25 to 23.
