Laptop Sports is the Best Medicine

What a rough time of year.

Hot one day and cool, if not cold, the next.

Toss in dusty, dry, dirty air along with the ongoing Midwest drought and it’s the perfect mixture for germ-causing ailments.

Some sort of bug struck me the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 16.

I woke up feeling poorly. The “I feel crummy enough to stay home but well enough to go to work,” saga lasted for three days.

While I performed my job duties last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, my evening hours were spent in my recliner.

I followed suit for most of Saturday and Sunday.

Thank goodness for sports on television.

Or, in my case, my laptop computer.

Wednesday night, I was entertained by Game Three of the National League Championship Series, an 8-0 victory for the L.A. Dodgers over the N.Y. Mets.

Thursday was a triple-header. Game Three of the American League Championship Series saw Cleveland defeat the Yankees, 7-5, in ten innings.

I watched part of the Denver Broncos pounding of the New Orleans Saints, 33-10, before switching the channel to Game Four of NLCS, which resulted in a 10-2 Dodgers blowout of the Mets.

Friday evening started with the NU volleyball team’s sweep at Michigan State followed by the Mets defeating the Dodgers, 12-6, in Game Five of the NLCS.

While watching Game Four of the ALCS, an 8-6 Yankees victory over Cleveland, I tuned in KCOW Radio to catch the Alliance at Sidney football game which resulted in a 48-14 Red Raider victory.

Saturday began with the early Halloween nightmare of Nebraska football getting blown out at Indiana, 56-7.

I had a sick feeling the Huskers would get spanked when the TV cameras revealed NU wearing its “surrender white” uniforms.

Since 1990, NU has lost 14 road games wearing all whites.

To make matters worse, the FOX telecast featured Gus Johnson as the lead play by play man.

Johnson is one of my least favorite announcers on network television.

“Screaming Gus” aggravates me with cliches used ad nauseam. He is one of the biggest self-promoters in a broadcast booth and adds miniscule entertainment to the game despite his big mouth.

Nebraska plays at Ohio State this Saturday in another FOX broadcast. Let’s hope Johnson is hundreds of miles from Ohio Stadium.

And that Nebraska is wearing red pants.

Following the Husker football loss, I enjoyed viewing the NU volleyball team’s sweep of Ohio State at Columbus.

Saturday’s recliner viewing of laptop sports featured more college football, including Colorado’s win at Arizona, Georgia’s 30-15 victory at top-ranked Texas, and Tennessee’s victory over Alabama.

Saturday’s final event was the Yankees 5-2 victory over Cleveland to clinch to American League Championship Pennant.

Sunday was seven hour of NFL thrills.

The first game was Detroit’s 31-29 victory at Minnesota followed by Kansas City’s 28-18 win at San Francisco.

By Sunday night, I was back to feeling well again.

Thanks, thanks, and more thanks for laptop sports. Football, volleyball, and baseball all at once on the laptop! The best medicine I could have tasted.

What a great time of year!!!
