Students Experience County Government Day

Sixteen Hemingford High School students attended Box Butte County Government Day on Monday, Oct. 21, sponsored by The American Legion Post 7 at Alliance and Post 9 of Hemingford, and their Auxiliaries. The students visited the offices of Treasurer, Assessor, Veterans Service Officer, Sheriff and County Extension Agent. Students were given the oath of office by County Clerk Martie Burke. Following lunch at Knight Museum, the students attended a mock military funeral at Nebraska Veterans Cemetery at Alliance. The purpose of The American Legion County government Day is to provide high school students the opportunity to learn about how their local government works.

The American Flag is presented at the mock funeral.
