Commissioners Suspend Access to County Facilities

At a special meeting on March 26, the Box Butte County Commissioners took action to suspend public access to all Box Butte County Facilities beginning on March 27 in an effort to limit the spread of COVID-19.

The board limited access to the room, allowing themselves, the County Clerk and the County Attorney to be in the room with one speaker at a time. Others present were asked to space themselves out in the hallway.

Representatives from each of the offices spoke at the meeting, discussing their individual concerns before the board made a motion to suspend access to the facilities.

The offices will still accept phone calls and schedule appointments with individuals, and the construction at the courthouse will continue as planned.

On April 3, offices at the courthouse will be closed all day while an electrical switchover takes place as part of the scheduled renovations.

The special meeting comes a week after the commissioners were reticent to discuss COVID-19 measures.
