At approximately 11:40 AM on November 11, 2024, the Alliance Police Department’s School Resource Officer (SRO), Officer Sherlock, received a report from the Alliance High School principal regarding a possible firearm on school premises. In response to this report, the school initiated a lockdown to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Upon arrival, Alliance Police Department officers promptly located and secured the student in question. A thorough search was conducted, and no firearm was found. An investigation is underway to determine the details surrounding the incident.

Preliminary findings indicate that a slang term for a firearm was used during a conversation among students. This terminology led to a misunderstanding, and the reporting student believed that a firearm might be in the student’s backpack. Based on the potential threat, school officials and law enforcement acted swiftly and in accordance with established safety protocols.

The Alliance Police Department and Alliance Public Schools prioritize the safety and security of all students. The prompt response to this incident underscores the commitment to maintaining a safe school environment. While no firearm was located, we are continuing our investigation and reviewing protocols to ensure the best practices are followed.

We commend the quick actions of the high school administration and our officers for their cooperation and professionalism.

No students or staff were harmed during this incident, and the lockdown was lifted as soon as the school was deemed safe. Parents and guardians were promptly notified, and the Alliance Police Department will work with school officials to address any concerns raised by this event.
