On Thursday afternoon, Alliance Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Troy Unzicker announced, out of an abundance of caution, that APS suffered a data breach, through PowerSchool.
In the announcement, he said that the district learned about the cyber-security incident on Jan. 7 from an email from PowerSchool, a student information system used by Alliance Public Schools and other school districts. The date of the incident was Dec. 28, 2024.
“We have been informed that some student data from our district and other districts was downloaded by an unauthorized user, and an analysis is being done by PowerSchool on the type of information accessed,” Unzicker said in the announcement.
PowerSchool informed the district that the situation has been contained and that they have taken actions to prevent the information from being used.
“We have reinforced to this vendor our expectations about upholding the highest data security standards. If there are any important updates, we will notify you,” Unzicker said in the announcement.
