The Nebraska Panhandle Area Health Education Center Turns 20 in 2025

The Nebraska Panhandle Area Health Education Center (NP-AHEC) turns 20 in 2025! The NP AHEC is part of the Nebraska AHEC Program. Both organizations have the overarching mission to enhance access to quality healthcare, particularly primary care, by improving the supply and distribution of healthcare professionals via strategic partnerships with academic programs, communities, and professional organizations. Nebraska AHEC operates in all 93 counties, while NP-AHEC serves the 17 western most Nebraska counties.

NP-AHEC partners with panhandle high schools, colleges, healthcare facilities, employers, and other organizations to recruit a pipeline of students into healthcare, to train and develop networking opportunities for high school and healthcare students, and to retain health professionals in the panhandle by delivering access to continuing education. NP-AHEC accomplishes its great work through job shadow experiences, administering HIPAA exams, providing hands-on healthcare training opportunities, and its flagship program, the Nebraska AHEC Scholars Program. The Nebraska AHEC Scholars Program, part of a national initiative, is a two-year program that better prepares health profession students to serve in rural and underserved areas. Becoming a Nebraska AHEC Scholar elevates one’s credentials as an emerging healthcare leader.

NP-AHEC will be celebrating its 20th anniversary all year long in 2025.
