District 47 Legislative Update

As we navigate this busy 2025 Session, the First of the 109th Legislature, our mornings are spent debating bills advanced out of committee, while our afternoons are dedicated to hearings in our standing committees. I was honored to present LB 698 before the Business and Labor Committee this past Monday. This bill provides additional structure to Initiative 436 by taking into consideration the protection of small businesses within our communities while continuing to preserve the vital goal of workforce employment. The impact of small businesses on our state’s economy cannot be overlooked. If these businesses are allowed to falter or disappear, we risk losing a significant portion of our workforce, leading to higher unemployment rates and reduced economic activity. By supporting small businesses, we ensure that working individuals across the state can keep their jobs, thrive, and contribute to a more stable economy for all.

I was pleased to see strong support from our Legislative District 47 constituents regarding the merit of this legislation. Your emails were received and greatly appreciated. I would also like to extend my gratitude to one of our Bridgeport residents who was at the hearing and testified in favor of the bill. Your support has been invaluable, and I deeply appreciate the continued input from everyone in our community.

Another important bill that I introduced this week, LB 312, was heard before members of the Health and Human Services Committee. This bill seeks to improve critical needs in our rural healthcare system by adding “nurse anesthetist” as an eligible provider to the Rural Health Systems and Professional Incentive Act. I look forward to further deliberations on the potential benefits this bill could provide to our state’s residents.

In addition to our work on the legislative floor, I have been spending each afternoon working with members of the Appropriations Committee, as we continue to tackle the state’s budget. I have truly enjoyed my involvement with this crucial committee and firmly believe that our discussions and decisions here will have a lasting impact on the state’s fiscal health and priorities.

I have also had the opportunity to meet with a handful of constituents at my legislative office this week. I welcome these discussions as we continue to address the many important programs that impact our communities.

As always, I value your input and continued engagement in the legislative process. Thank you for your ongoing support!
