Reflections for the Week of Feb. 10

Water/sewer:

 Special thanks to all employees who have worked on seven water main breaks in the last three weeks – especially in the sub-zero temperatures we have experienced.

 Assisted plumber in turning off broken 4” water service for Meridian Trust

 Completed 13 work orders; 6 locates

 Prepared well #6 and #4 narratives for council consideration

 Repaired hydrant pumps

 Washed and greased backhoe

 Ran new water line at public works bldg. for clothes washer

 Cleaned pump base at Elkhorn well

 Read cycle 2 radios

 Repaired broken water main at 511 Grand

 Collected chlorine residuals

Landfill:

 123 customers, 159 tons this week

 Laid dirt cover

 Interviewed heavy equipment operator candidates

 Approved loader repair scheduling

 Prepared dozer repair and track replacement invoice for council approval

 Prepared baler bid acceptance for council approval

 Conducted zoom meeting to discuss rate engineering expectations, timeline and data requests

 Replaced 25 dumpsters

 Ran burn box

 Conducted regular maintenance

 Worked on Capital Improvement Plan, 10 year and operational budgets Streets:

 Interviewed maintenance worker candidates

 Completed 6 locates

 Conducted welding training class

 Had sander and plow installed on unit # 920

 Ongoing alley maintenance

 Laid slice on icy roads

 Hauled 35 loads of crushed concrete from landfill

 Worked on Capital Improvement Plan and 10 year budgets

Airport:

 Airline Selection – The application for alternate EAS has beet submitted to the Department of Transportation (DOT).

 Warehouse renewal leases are ready for council on Tuesday.

 Snowplow assembly bid was published on Wednesday.

 All tax statements sent out to tenants of warehouse buildings and applicable land leases.  Work has started on the annual live burn training.

 Maintenance staff replaced bristles on broom.

 Staff obtained monthly meter reads for the utilities department.

 Snow removal and monitoring of airfield conditions was required this week.

RSVP & Senior Center:

 Worked with volunteers and staff to arrange, decorate, and cook for the Valentine dinner at the Senior Center. The center is hosting three shifts for the Valentine dinners this year.  Hosted card games, Bunco and treats at the Center

 RSVP had fifteen volunteers in the community assisting with activities and programs.  Continued providing deliver and dine in meals for area seniors.

Museum:

 Created exhibits in the theater featuring items from the 60’s

 Hosted scrapbooking event over the weekend.

 Finalized menus and activities for the Museum Conference this spring  Continued sorting artifacts and creating exhibits in the basement exhibit display areas.  Continued sorting countless documents and photos to be organized in the Heritage Room

Library:

 This was the last week for our Blind Date with a Book contest. Congratulations to our winner Natalie Hinojosa!! Part of the prize this year is a gift certificate for two to Alliance Theater. Once again, the Red Nest family donated their portion of this year’s prize – Thank you to the Red Nest Family! Please remember to visit our local businesses such as Alliance Theater who are constantly giving back to our community. Thank you to the Red Nest family for your years of support for the library!

 Children’s Librarian Cynthia Horn held a Valentine Box event with Keep Alliance Beautiful with over 60 children and family members creating cool boxes together! Story Time featured “Be My Valentine!” with special guest, Earlynn Lawrence and making Valentine crowns. Cynthia shared library announcements on KCOW radio, organized Book Mobile items, maintained backpacks and cataloged new items. Her additional projects include preparing for upcoming events and updating displays.

 Adult Services Librarian Nalani Stewart cataloged new materials and hosted Fiber Arts Club and the book club at Highland Park Care Center. She also put up a new display and helped patrons on the computer.

 Technical Services Librarian Emily Nelson updated the social media sites and website, made the weekly Bookmobile deliveries, and assisted patrons on the computers.  Library Clerks Pam Becker and Stephanie Hamilton have been busy keeping up with tax documents and processing new materials.

Parks:

 Dug a cremains grave for Saturday and a full interment for a vault burial on Monday.  Finished setting up the bush hog for the new tractor.

 Completed snow removal as necessary.

 Worked on the lights on unit 616 and repaired the air bags on Unit 612.  Repaired the sink at the shelter house.

Electric:

 Continue installation of load control/disconnect boxes on irrigation wells  Started setting new poles and anchors on three-phase rebuild project north of Nance Road east of Highway 87

 Hosted kick-off meeting with Farris Engineering on feasibility study for alternate feed line

 Repaired/replaced street/security lights as needed

 Performed maintenance on various trucks and equipment

Transit:

 859 Riders

Administration:

 Met with multiple department heads and council members

 Met with the School Superintendent.

 Met with BBDC Director; attended BBDC monthly board meeting.  Preparations for next week’s City Council Meeting
