John David Dietrich Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of John David Dietrich, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend. John passed away surrounded by his family in Gering, NE, on February 18, 2025, at the age of 67 after a sudden battle with cancer.

John was born on July 10, 1957, in Alliance, NE, to Elizabeth and Marvin Dietrich. The youngest of three boys, John was involved in many community organizations as well as a devoted member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church. He graduated from Alliance High School in 1975 and went on to attend the University of Wyoming. He was an active member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, earning his degree in accounting in 1979. After graduation, John took a job in Casper, WY where he started his family.

In 1987, he moved his family to Alliance, NE, where he joined the family beer business. John spent the last 37 years carrying on the legacy of Dietrich Distributing. He was incredibly generous to his community and made it a priority to ensure those around him were always smiling. John enjoyed playing golf, boating, fishing, and playing cards; anything that meant he could spend time with family and friends.

John is survived by his daughters Abby (Nicholas) Haun and Annie (Brett) Ruiz; his brothers Douglas Dietrich and Michael (Gayle) Dietrich; and granddaughter Evelyn Ruiz. He also leaves behind nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth (Buchfink) and Marvin Dietrich.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday March 1, 2025, at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 312 W 16th St, Alliance, NE. The burial ceremony will take place immediately following at the Alliance Cemetery, Co Rd 58.

The reception gathering will be held at the West Side Event Center, 2472 County Road 62, Alliance, NE.

John’s untimely death leaves a void that will never be filled, but his legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May he rest in eternal peace.
