SPD Announces New Signage

If you drive by the Public Safety Building you will notice new signage on the front door showcasing everyone’s favorite officer, K9 Duke. “Need help? Follow Duke’s pawprints,” the sign reads with bright yellow paw prints.

Last year, Scottsbluff Police Officers responded to a call regarding a young juvenile knocking on doors and asking for help near the Scottsbluff Police Department. Officer Muniz responded to the neighbor’s residence where the juvenile went for help, but no one was home, while Officer Mason located the young juvenile near the police department and was able to determine there was a medical emergency that occurred within the juvenile’s home. The juvenile had gone to the police department for help but found the front door was locked and didn’t know what to do beyond that point.

After the call was concluded, Officer Muniz reached out to her sergeant and asked what steps could be taken to improve the signage on the building so that children would have a better idea of how to get help in the future. The request was taken up the chain of command and Officer Muniz was authorized to move forward on finding a signage solution. The project took months of planning and preparation and finally came to fruition on March 5th. With the help of Whiting Signs, Officer Muniz’ vision became a reality.

Officer Muniz went above and beyond to find a solution that would benefit children in the community for years to come. This is a testament to her willingness to help others and her drive to make our community a better place.

Job well done, Officer Muniz.
