Mobius Communications, One of Five Companies Awarded NBBP Grant from Nebraska Public Service Commission

Mobius Communications is excited to announce it has been selected as one of five companies to receive funding through the latest round of the Nebraska Broadband Bridge Program (NBBP) from the Nebraska Public Service Commission. This grant will support the company’s efforts to deploy fiber optic networks, bringing high-speed broadband to more rural and underserved residents in Box Butte and Dawes counties.

The NBBP, established by the Nebraska legislature and signed into law by Governor Pete Ricketts in 2021, aims to improve broadband access across rural parts of the state. The program has been instrumental in helping providers expand their services to areas that traditionally lack reliable internet access.

Tonya Mayer, CEO & General Manager of Mobius Communications, expressed her excitement and gratitude for the opportunity: “We are both humbled and excited to continue our mission of serving rural Nebraska residents. Our focus has always been on providing fast, reliable, and robust connectivity, ensuring that rural residents have access to the tools they need to work, learn, and stay connected in today’s digital world.”

Mobius has earned the support of Box Butte and Dawes County Commissioners, who recognize the importance of broadband access to their counties. “Both County Commissioners—Dawes and Box Butte—understand the need for reliable internet and have supported our commitment to expanding fiber infrastructure, which is key to driving economic development in rural areas,” said Mayer.

Since 2010, Mobius Communications has actively sought funding opportunities to extend fiber-optic service to western Nebraska residents. Mobius is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Hemingford Cooperative Telephone Company, based in Hemingford, Nebraska.
