Three Golds by Shelmadine Highlight Gering Track Meet for the Academy

Mother Nature was very kind on Saturday for the final regular season track meet for the Alliance St. Agnes Academy teams. The Crusaders took part in the Jack Martin Invite meet in Gering. Six teams competed in the event in near perfect conditions. Seventh grader Alexis Shelmadine was the Academy’s top performer, winning gold in three events. Shelmadine won both hurdle races and the pole vault to pace the Lady Crusaders. Top scorer for the Alliance 8th grade girls was Maslin Breen who took 2nd in the high jump and third in the 100 hurdles. In the girl’s team race, Scottsbluff won the 7th grade side with 200 points with Gering taking second with123 points. St. Agnes was fifth with 31. Gering won the 8th grade girl’s title with 141 points while Sidney finished second with 96 points. St. Agnes tallied 14 points for sixth.

8th grader Paxton Richey won the lone gold for the Academy boys. Richey was first in the pole vault. Top finishers for the 7th graders were third place medals in the both 400 and medley relays. Gering won the 7th grade boy’s team title with 147 points with the Bluffs second at 142 points. Scottsbluff was first in the 8th grade boy’s division with 114 points while Gering was the runner up with 112 points. St. Agnes scored 23 points in the 7th grade division which was good for sixth. The 8th graders ended with19 points which was also good for sixth.

Saturday’s meet put an end to the regular season for the Academy teams. The

Crusaders were able to compete in all 8 meets this year, maybe a first for the Academy. On Saturday, May 17, the state junior high meet will be held in Gothenberg for a few St. Agnes qualifiers.
