A Sweet Sweep! Bobcats Take Both Track Titles at Conference Meet in Morrill

Morrill High School again hosted the Panhandle Conference track meet on Friday with 8 high school attending. And when the smoke cleared, it was the both Hemingford teams coming out on top. The Cats easily won the boy’s division with an impressive 246 points with Hyannis second with 149 points. Scoring 157 points and winning the girl’s crown were the Bobcats while Morrill took second with 97 points. Hemingford won firsts for the boys in 12 events in taking home the trophy. On the girl’s side, the Cats claimed gold in 5 events. Senior Michael Helmink won both the shot and discus for the Cats while Austin Benda captured gold in both the mile and 2 mile races. The Bobcats were also first in both the 400 and mile relays. Other first place finishers were: Jayce Haas in the 100 Gavin Bell in the 200 Tayten Haas in the 400 Boady Hunter in the 800 Keirith Yale in the high jump and Eli Hunter in the pole vault. Winning first for the Lady Cats were: Ainslee Woltman in the 2 mile Aurora Hinman in the 800 and Karly Ragsdale in the pole vault. Hemingford was also the winner in the girl’s mile and 2 mile relays. In the unified division, the Cats got a strong performance from Gattlen Bell and Jonathan Moreno who finished first and second in the 100 long jump and shot.

“We were very proud of the way our athletes competed and represented Hemingford Track and Field. HS Boys, HS Girls, JH Boys all earned 1st as a team. JH Girls earned 2nd as a team,” said Coach Joshua Dean.
