Post 129 from Ashland proved to be too much for the Alliance senior squad on Friday. The Blue Jays downed the Spartans 10 to 1 in a five inning game. Six runs in the top of the fourth by Ashland powered the Jays to the win. The Peltz Co had just cut their deficit to 3 to 1 in the third before the big scoring spree. With the loss, the Spartans dropped to 10 and 4 for the year. Alliance was held to just 2 hits for the matchup. Pitching for the seniors were starter Carver Nemnich and relievers Kegan Rodriguez and Miguel Galvan.
Ashland scored one tally in the opening frame. The Jays used an error by Alliance and a sacrifice fly to take a 1 to 0 lead. Alliance failed to score in the bottom of the inning. Nemnich would recover a strikeout in the second as Post 129 went scoreless. The Spartans were also turned away in their second inning at bat.
Errors plagued the Spartans in the third. A couple of miscues put Blue Jays runners of the bases where a 2 run double made the score 3 to 0. Alliance got one back in the home half of the frame. Walks to EJ Garcia, Creighton Fritzler, and Espen Lanik loaded the bags for Kobe Strom whose sac fly made it a 3 to 1 ball game.
Six runs in the fourth gave Ashland a big lead. Post 129 had seven hits to take a 9 to 1 lead. A hit by Peltz Co’s Cody Galles gave Alliance hope in the bottom of the inning. Galles unfortunately was left on the base paths. Heading to the fifth, the Spartans trailed by 8.
An Alliance double play in the top of inning #5 briefly stopped a rally by Ashland but a passed ball put the score at 10 to 1. Jaxson Esparza had a knock for the seniors in their final at bat but no runs were tallied. Final Ashland 10. Alliance 1
Blue Jays 1 0 2 6 1 10
Spartans 0 0 1 0 0 1
Two hits for the Peltz Co one apiece Esparza and Galles.
