Cody’s Arm and Bat Help Preps Get Past Gordon

Alliance got a complete game from pitcher Cisco Cody in a Prep win over Gordon 10 to 1 on Monday. The Spartan also had 2 of the 6 hits for the Peltz Co. Cody hurled all 5 innings, gave up just 4 hits, and struck out 5 in getting the victory. Alliance has won 5 games in a row with the Prep squad and 8 of 9. The Spartans now have a 9-15 and 1 record for the season. Monday’s matchup was the second game of a doubleheader between the 2 squads and was played in Alliance. The Peltz Co won the first game 12 to 2.

A walk and a single by Security First in the opening frame gave the guest a 1 to 0 lead. It was their only score of the evening. In the bottom of the inning, the Spartans came back with 5 runs of their own. The Peltz Co had only one hit in the frame but plated 5 tallies to take a 4 run advantage. A double by Roy Torres began the scoring. Eventually, Torres scored on a passed ball. Three errors by the visitors then accounted for another run. The inning closed with 3 wild pitches by Gordon and Alliance leading 5 to 1.

Two k’s by Cody kept Security First off the board in the second while the Spartans scored twice in the frame. A knock by Cooper Galles and a walk by Torres got Alliance to a solid start. Alliance then got RBI ground outs by Ryan Walker and Drayden Konopnicki to surge ahead by 6. Inning 3 had the guests go down quietly with Cody recording 2 more strikeouts. The Peltz Co added to their margin as Cody singled and scored on a Gordon wild pitch.

Security First would threaten in the fourth with 3 straight hits. A strikeout by Cody and an Alliance double play stopped the rally. In the Spartan’s last at bat, the Peltz Co got two more runs. Hits by Torres, Kylar Adams, and Cody make it a 10 to 1 ball game. The Prep club held the guests scoreless in the top of the fifth as the Spartans went on for the 10 to 1 victory.
