Alliance’s Prep squad won their fifth game in a row on Thursday, besting Gering 17 to 4. The game was a three inning matchup played in Alliance. Down by 2 in the top the second, the Spartans exploded in the home half scoring 10 times in getting the win. The Peltz Co has a 15-16-1 record. Spartan Cooper Galles led the Alliance offense with 3 of the Preps’ 7 hits. The game was the first of 2 played between the rivals. Pitching for the Spartans was starter Reese Muhr who went 2 innings and gave up just one hit and reliever AJ Garcia.
Gering started the game with 4 runs in the top of the opener. The guests used a walk, a couple of Alliance errors, a hit, and a passed ball to take a 4 to 0 lead. In the home half, the Peltz Co got 2. Silas Lilley-Stone began the action by reaching base after an error by Gering. Next up was Cisco Cody who singled to continue the inning. Another miscue by the visitors on a ball hit by Spartan Quinn Ferguson led to the first score for the hosts. A passed ball then plated run #2. After one inning of play, the Peltz Co was down 4 to 2.
In the second , Muhr had a scoreless frame keeping the Alliance deficit at 2. The Spartans then went up after a 10 run home half. Alliance got things going after a Gering error allowed Spartan Roy Torres to reach. Galles was next and his double continued the rally. After a walk, a 2 run mistake by the guests tied the battle at 4. A sac fly by Logan Freiberger then gave the Peltz Co their first advantage at 5 to 4. Alliance’s next 2 tallies came after passed balls by Gering. An RBI groundout by Ferguson gave the Prep squad an 8 to 4 margin. The spree concluded with a 2 run scoring knock by Galles and a pair of wild pitches by the guests.
Garcia struck out 2 in the top of the third to keep the Alliance lead at 8. The Spartans put the contest out of reach with 5 in their last at bat in the bottom of the third. Hits from Ferguson and Torres made it a 13 to 4 ball game. Galles then had his third knock of the battle with a 2 run triple. A wild pitch by Gering and an RBI single by Freiberger finished off the Peltz Co’s 17 to 4 victory.
