Three Runs in the Bottom of the Seventh Lifts Spearfish Past Navy Squad 7 to 6

Post 164 out of Spearfish rallied with 3 scores in their final at bat to down the Alliance Navy club 7 to 6 in action Saturday in Chadron. The Spartans had a nice to 6 to 1 lead heading to the sixth but 3 Spearfish scores got Post 164 close. Three more tallies by Spearfish in the bottom of the seventh completed the rally. Starting pitcher Kyler Hamel went the first five frames and was relieved by Jackson Smith and Miguel Galvan. The Peltz Co finished with 5 hits for the contest.

Alliance batted first and put 2 on the board in the top of the opening frame. Hits from Galvan and Fletcher Moseman plus an RBI walk by Reese Muhr made it a 2 to 0 ball game. Hamel sat down Post 164 in order in the bottom of the first. Inning 2 had the Spartans getting 2 more tallies thanks to an RBI hit by Teagan O’Gorman and an RBI groundout by Muhr. An Alliance double play in the home half kept the Peltz Co up by 4.

Inning #3 was a scoreless one for the Spartans while Spearfish plated one on a pair of walks and a miscue by Alliance. Both teams failed to score in the fourth with the Spartans turning another DP. In the 5th, the Peltz Co scored twice on hits by Carson Stull and Israel Garcia. The knock by Garcia scored 2 runs for the Navy club. Post 164 responded with a 3 spot in the home half of the fifth. Spearfish used 2 hits and 2 errors by Alliance to cut their deficit to 2. In their final at bat, the Spartans failed to increase their advantage. The comeback by Post 164 started with a miscue by the Spartans and a walk. A 2 run single made it a 6 to 5 contest. With runners in scoring position, a wild pitch by the Peltz Co tied the battle at 6 and a walk off single won the game for Spearfish. Final Post 164 7 Spartans 6
