Rivals Alliance and Chadron met Wednesday in Chadron in Junior League baseball. The White squad used a 3 hit effort from pitcher Fletcher Moseman to down the hosts 9 to 1. Alliance now has a 21-3-1 record for the season . The Spartans used two big innings to win the 5 frame affair. Kegan Rodriguez led the offense with 3 of the Peltz Co’s 8 hits. Alliance scored 4 runs in the first then added 5 more in the 5th. Moseman had five strikeouts on the night and went the distance.
Five knocks in the opening inning got the white team off to a solid beginning. Hits from Rodriguez and Creighton Fritzler started the 4 run frame. An RBI double by Nason Thompson gave the Spartans their first tally. Tony Escamilla was next and his 2 run single made it 3 to 0. Alliance’s final score came after a hit by Lexton Salcido. PVC would score once in the bottom of the first, using a miscue by the Peltz Co and a passed ball. After one inning of action, the White club had a 4 to 1 lead.
Innings 2-3-4 had no runs scored by either squads. Moseman would get 2 strikeouts in frame #2. In the third, Chadron had a base runner thrown out trying to steal by Spartan catcher EJ Garcia. Rodriguez singled in the top of the fourth but was left on the bases.
Alliance put the contest out of reach in their final at bat in the top of the fifth. The Peltz Co plated five runs to increase their advantage. Mikey Johnson had a walk to began the scoring and moved into scoring position after Thompson was hit by a pitch. A sacrifice bunt by Jackson Smith ensued and both runners scored after a 2 run double by Jaxon Poss. Later in the frame with the sacks full, Garcia drove in the Spartans’ seventh score with a walk. The spree would then end with 2 RBI hit by Rodriguez. Heading to the home half, the White team was up 9 to 1. Post 12 failed to score in their last at bat. Final. Alliance 9. Chadron 1
