Holdrege was the site Friday for opening round games of the Class B 6 district tournament. Alliance, the sixth seed, faced off against Broken Bow the third seed. The Spartans fell to Post 126 7 to 6 in extra innings. With the loss, the Peltz Co has a 22-24-1 record on the season. Alliance battled back from an early 5 to 0 deficit but single tallies in the seventh and eighth innings gave Bow the win. Leading the offense for the Navy squad was Israel Garcia who had 3 hits while collecting 2 knocks each were Tanner Salcido and Dixon Bair. The Peltz Co ended the game with 7 hits. Pitching for the Spartans was starter Miguel Galvan and reliever Teagan O’Gorman. Galvan went 3.1 frames and had 2 strikeouts while O’Gorman pitched 4.1 innings.
Alliance would get a Salcido double in the top of the first but failed to score. In the home half, Broken Bow scored on a wild pitch. Galvan limited the damage with a strikeout with the bases loaded. The Spartans went down quietly in the second. A double play turned by the Spartans in the bottom of the second kept Post 126 off the board. After 2 innings of action , Alliance trailed 1 to 0.
Inning three had the Peltz Co held scoreless while Bow scored twice to go up 3 to 0. The trend continued in the fourth with the Spartans failing to get into the score column and Post 126 getting 2 more tallies. Down 5 in the top of the fifth, Alliance tied the contest with 5 scores of their own. The rally began with the Spartans loading the sacks thanks to a hit by Bair and both Jackson Devlin and Kyler Hamel reaching after being hit by pitches. An RBI hit by Garcia made it a 5 to 1 ball game. O’Gorman was next and his RBI walk sliced the Alliance deficit to 3. The big hit in the spree then came from Salcido whose single plated 2 more tallies. A passed ball then tied the battle at 5. Broken Bow went down without a score in the bottom of the frame. With five innings in the book, the game was tied at 5.
Inning #6 saw the Peltz Co take the lead. A single by Bair was followed by a sacrifice bunt by Hamel. The Navy club then took their first advantage after a hit by Garcia made it 6 to 5. O’Gorman held Post 126 off the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth. In the seventh, the Spartans failed to increase their margin with no scores. Broken Bow knotted the game and sent it into extra innings with one score in the home half. Alliance had a chance to go up in the top of the eighth. Hamel walked and advanced to second after a passed ball. A single by Garcia ensued but Hamel was thrown out at the plate that kept the ball game tied at 6. Broken Bow then won the contest with one tally in the bottom of the frame. Post 126 used three hits to get the walk off win. Final Broken Bow 7. Alliance 6
