Linda Marie (Forsstrom) Laue was born April 29th, 1956 in Alliance, Nebraska at St. Joseph’s Hospital to Oscar and Royal Diene (Perkins) Forsstrom. She was the baby sister to teen brothers Gerald (Marie) Forsstrom (Hawaii) and Richard (Mary) Forsstrom (Hemingford, Ne), both of whom served in the military.
She grew up in Hemingford, Nebraska and moved to Hay Springs, Nebraska with her mom when she was about nine or ten after her parents’ divorce. She graduated from Hay Springs High School in 1974. She wrote in her yearbook that someday she was going to be raising her niece, little did she realize that vision would come true. She reminisced about her travels and adventures with her girlfriends growing up and into her twenties. There was lots of laughter and fun.
She met Brad Laue in Alliance at Toad’s Bar and Grill where she picked him up! She latched on and he gave in. Five years later they were married on July 5th, 1980, in his parent’s backyard in Chadron, Nebraska. It was a small and intimate ceremony. God blessed them with a daughter, Kara, in 1987. Linda was so happy and felt blessed after becoming a mother. She stayed at home for about 4-5 years, then started at West Way Motel in Housekeeping. She had a career in retail and customer service ranging from Tasty Freeze, K-mart, Alco, McDonald’s, Dollar General, Clarus Corporation (Telemarketing), Bomgaar’s, Maverick, and Safeway. She became a manager at the downtown location of Dollar General for about six years. She did well and earned several plaques as the manager. She was a people person, willing to talk to anyone and everyone, and made countless friends over the years. She had a silly sense of humor and always made people laugh and embarrassed her daughter! Haha! Her family knows and understands that she is loved and will truly be missed by so many.
She had genuine enthusiasm for knowing and sharing her family history, pictures, antiques, house plants, flowers, animals, feeding the birds, classic rock, taking cruises with her daughter, and loved blended coffee drinks, boba teas, and Chinese food. She always made it a priority to attend events throughout her daughter and grandkid’s lives. We know she will be there in spirit now.
She began her journey in the spirit world Sunday, July 27th, 2025 with her loving husband and daughter by her side at UC Health University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora, Colorado. She was preceded in death by paternal and maternal grandparents, parents Oscar and Royal Diene Forsstrom, father- and mother-in-law Ralph and Helen Laue, brother Gerald and sister-in-law Marie Forsstrom, brother Richard (Dick) Forsstrom, sister-in-laws Kim Laue and Cris (Tim) Laue, a grandchild, and a niece. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Brad Laue, daughter, Kara Laue (Jason Monroe), and three grandchildren Arianna Pruneda, Adam Pruneda, and Winnie Monroe all of Alliance, Nebraska, sister-in-law Mary Forsstrom of Hemingford, Nebraska, brother-in-law Tim Laue of Chadron, Nebraska, several nieces and nephews with their children, and many cousins. She will be truly missed by her family and grandkids. She was the grandma with popsicles, sugary cereal, TY beanie babies (from Kara’s childhood) at birthdays and Christmases, and little bags of candy as a going home treat. Her unique hugs, kisses, and waves goodbye will be missed terribly. We are blessed to have our memories and pray she is watching over us.
Linda requested not to have a funeral ceremony. She wanted to be cremated and has plans with her husband to be together in the Chadron Cemetery in the future. She was extremely thankful for everyone who offered love, prayers, and helped her and her family in any way during these last few months. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to help with hospital expenses. They may be sent to Brad and Kara Laue 224 South Potash Ave., Alliance, NE 69301.
