Seventh Grade Bulldogs Split Games with Gering

A pair of successful point after touchdowns by Gering were just enough in their Saturday game against Alliance. In seventh grade football action in Gering, it was the hosts slipping AMS 16 to 12 in the season opener for the guests. Both teams scored twice but Gering was able to tack on both PATs in getting the win. AMS falls to 0 and 1 for the season. In the battle of the Bulldogs, the hosts scored in the fourth period to overcome a 12 to 8 deficit. Alliance would then win the B game, defeating Gering 14 to 0.

AMS got the ball first and got nice gains by Bo McCune before turning the ball over on downs. On Gering’s first series, a fumble recovery by Alliance’s Kendrick Quick stopped the Bulldog’s drive. The first quarter came to an end with an Alliance score. A touchdown pass from Karson Leisy to McCune gave the guests a 6 to 0 lead after one period of play. An interception by Bulldog Vincent Berger of Gering’s next possession helped AMS maintain their advantage. The Gering defense then stiffen as the Bulldogs couldn’t score on their next drive. With 2:05 showing on the clock, Gering would take the lead after a score and a good PAT. Both clubs were have one more opportunity in the half but no scores. A Quick sack finished play with Gering up 8 to 6.

Another Berger pick is how the third period started. AMS would then take the lead back on a touchdown scamper by Dreyton Perez. Up 12 to 8, the AMS defense stopped the Bulldogs on their next drive but a fumble by Alliance gave the ball back to the hosts. The period came to an end with AMS ahead 12 to 8. With under 7 minutes left to play, Gering retook the lead. Their extra point was good as AMS fell behind 16 to 12. Alliance would have success on their final drive thanks to plays by McCune and Perez. But the Dog’s series was stopped and Gering was able to run out the final seconds. Final Gering 16 Alliance 12

A pair of touchdowns by Leisy in the B game carried AMS to a 14 to 0 W. Leisy scored on a 60 yard run to began play. An interception by Ethan Rainwater later in the period stopped a Gering drive. The game came to a conclusion with another TD by Leisy plus a good PAT. Final Alliance 14 Gering 0

The Dogs will be on the road on Saturday with a game against Chadron.
