Sidney Slips Past Bulldogs in JV Action 18 to 8

A touchdown with under 6 minutes left to play was just enough for the Sidney Junior Varsity team to get past Alliance 18 to 8 in football action on Monday. Up 12 to 8, a 40 yard TD carry by the Raiders put the ball game away in the final period. The Bulldogs were behind 12 to 0 in the fourth quarter but a touchdown sliced their deficit to 4 before the last Sidney score. With the defeat, the Dogs now have a 0 and 2 record for the season. The contest was played at Bulldog Stadium.

No scores were tallied in the opening quarter. A pick by Alliance’s Jackson Devlin foiled Sidney’s first drive. Alliance would also go scoreless in the first period. Quarter #2 had the guests put together a 10 play drive that resulted in the battle’s first points. A Red Raider TD run of 1 yards made the score 6 to 0. A strong tackle by Devlin stopped the PAT and with 8:43 showing on the clock, the Dogs trailed 6 to 0. Starting at the 30, the Alliance offense began to click. Nice plays from quarterback Jacoby Bauer and receiver Smiley Valdovinos gave AHS hope. The dual connected for a 36 yards pass as the Dogs got close. Another pass from Bauer to Tony Valdovinos pushed the hosts into Sidney territory. Unfortunately, the drive stalled and the visitors got the ball. A Bauer fumble recovery on the Red Raider’s next possession gave Alliance another chance but an interception by the Dogs finished the half with Sidney out in front 6 to 0.

In third quarter action, Alliance was on defense first and kept their margin close. Tackles by Bulldogs Jett Childers and Kylar Adams ruined Sidney’s first try. On AHS’s first drive, it the Sidney defense making the plays and forcing a Bulldog punt. The period quickly came to a close with Alliance getting another sack by Adams and the score staying at 6 to 0.

Sidney extended their advantage at the 9 minute mark of the fourth. The guests scored on a 2 yard run to go ahead by 12. A tackle by Bulldog Jackson Smith stopped the extra point, keeping the score at Sidney 12 Alliance 0. The Dogs had their best series on the evening on their ensuing possession. Big gains by Childers put the ball inside the 10 yard line. From there, it was quarterback Tripp Johnson hitting Smiley Valdovinos for a 4 yard TD pass. Childers added the PAT and with 7 minutes remaining, the Bulldog’s deficit stood at 12 to 8. It would take the Raiders just 4 plays to increase their margin. A 40 yard touchdown scamper with 5:51 left made the scoreboard read Sidney 18 Alliance 8. The contest came to a conclusion with an interception by the guests and the Red Raiders getting the W 18 to 8.
