Gering Bests Bulldogs in Three Sets

Long time rivals Alliance and Gering met Thursday night in Gering to start the 2025 volleyball season. In three competitive sets, it was the host Bulldogs downing Alliance 25 15 25 11 25 17. The visiting Bulldogs began their year at 0 and 1. Gering also won the reserve and Junior Varsity matches played earlier.

Early momentum went to the hosts as Gering grabbed an early 6 to 2 advantage in set one. A block by Alliance Senior Alexis Libsack ensued, slicing the Alliance deficit to 2 at 7 to 5. Midway thru the opener, it was the G Bulldogs expanding their lead. Gering started to pull away and led 21 to 10 before Alliance got an ace serve by Ryli Poss to make it 21 to 11. The set closed with both squads scoring 4 points and Gering getting the victory 25 to 15.

Set 2 was a good one for Gering. The hosts jumped to an early lead and cruised to the win. Another ace block by Libsack early in the set gave Alliance hope. But Gering accounted with 13 to 4 run to take a 15 to 5 lead. Alliance would get no closer and the visiting Bulldogs fell 25 to 11.

Action was even in the finale. An ace serve by Alliance’s Addison Weber helped the Dogs take a 5 to 1 margin. The teams would traded points after that. Midway thru the set, the game was tied at 9. Alliance, down 14 to 11, would get a kill by Kaiah Adams to close their gap to 2. Another Poss kill later in the set kept Alliance in striking distance at 19 to 15. Despite an ace block by Weber, it Gering making the plays down the stretch. The hosts won the set 25 to 17 and the match in three.

Over the weekend, the Bulldogs hit the road for a tournament in Douglas, Wyoming. Alliance played 2 matches on Friday and three more on Saturday. The Bulldogs opened the tourney with a loss to Big Horn, Wyoming by scores of 25 19 25 19. Next up was a battle with Buffalo, Wyoming. Alliance got their first win of the year, downing Buffalo in 2 sets 25 23 25 18. On Saturday, the Lady Dogs began the day with a loss to Gering 25 14 25 13. Sundance, Wyoming was next and Alliance grabbed win #2 with a three set win. The scores were:

27 25. 17 25. 15 11. Southeast, Wyoming was the Bulldog’s final opponent and Alliance fell in three set by scores of 25 15. 19 25 12 15. Overall, the Bulldogs went 2 and 3 for the weekend and saw their record go to 2 and 4 for the year.

Alliance will go to Scottsbluff on Tuesday with games against the Bearcats.
