Lady Crusaders Make Quick Work of Community Christian

St. Agnes played host on Monday to Community Christian in a pair of volleyball contests. Holy Rosary Parish Center was the site. The Academy got wins in both matches. In the Junior Varsity game, the Crusaders won both sets by the scores of 25 to 14 and 25 to 12 in getting their first victory for the season. Their record now stands and 1 and 1. Alliance also got the W in the night cap, downing the guests 25 to 10 and 25 to 11 for their second win on the year. The Academy varsity club improved to 2 and 2. Top scorer for the Crusader JV team was Natalie Mullen who finished with 13 points while Delaney Jelinek paced the varsity attack with eight tallies.

A kill by the Academy’s Sidda Wilcox got the Alliance JV team off to a good start. Ahead 2 to 1, Mullen went to the line and served 5 in a row which gave the Crusaders a 7 to 1 lead. A point by Alliance’s Jamisyn Rasmussen later in the set push the Crusader margin to 9 to 3. The teams then traded points with the Academy maintaining its advantage. Two Avery Breen points midway thru the set kept SA up 15 to 6. Nala Reza scored twice later as the Academy stayed out in front at 20 to 9. Set one came to an end with a kill and a point by Breen and the Academy winning 25 to 14.

Points in set 2 by Reza and Mullen helped the Crusaders keep the momentum. Ahead 5 to 4, Mullen scored 8 straight as SA went ahead for good at 13 to 4. The set came to a close with the Academy getting super kills and tallies from Breen, Rasmussen, and Willow Hampton. Final set #2 Alliance 25 Community Christian 12

Early set 1 points in the varsity contest by Quinn Robertson and Alexis Shelmadine paved the way for an Alliance win. Three consecutive Shelmadine tallies helped the Academy surge ahead 6 to 1. A kill by Kale Hulquist later in the action made the score 7 to 2. Jelinek then went to the line and scored three in a row as SA went up 11 to 3. Midway through the opener, the teams swapped scores. The Crusaders then got 3 Addison Intermill scores to go up 18 to 7. Set #1 came to a conclusion with Aubrey Dudden scoring 4 straight as Alliance was victorious 25 to 10.

Down 1 to 0, the Academy went on a 5 to 2 spree to take a 5 to 3 lead early in set 2. The Lady Crusaders got 2 points by Grace Shrewsbury during the run to take a comfortable advantage. An Intermill kill plus 4 points by the Alliance 8th grader later put the score at 12 to 5 in favor of the Academy. Kills and points by the Crusaders-Shelmadine, Robertson, Reza, Dudden, and Hulquist-later on made a Community Christian comeback difficult. Five straight Jelinek tallies finished off the set with the Crusaders getting the win 25 to 11.
