Seven sets of volleyball. And seven wins. This was the story for the Alliance volleyball team on Tuesday in three home matches versus Gordon-Rushville. On Senior night, the Bulldogs took down the Mustangs in the reserve, junior varsity, and varsity contest. All were clean sweeps. The night started with a 25 13 25 9 win for the Bulldog reserve club. Next up was the JV battle which went to AHS by scores of 25 16 25 19. The final game of the evening was the varsity game where the Dogs defeated GR 25 19 25 4 25 17 to improve to 6 and 9 on the year. It was senior night as 3 special players for Alliance were recognized. They were: Addison Weber, Kaiah Adams, and Alexis Libsack. AHS got a big performance from Ryli Poss who lead the offense with 19 points while Weber was the top spiker with 9 kills.
Eleven times in the first set the match up was tied. The contest was knotted at 5, 7, 8, 9, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, and 19. Early successful plays by Poss and Adams kept the Bulldogs close. Three in a row from the service line by Paz Cody gave Alliance a 7 to 5 but the rest of the opener was even. Tied at 17, two points from Kenley Jelinek gave the hosts a brief lead but the guests countered with 2 straight to tie the set at 19. The set came to an end with the Dogs getting 5 consecutive tallies from Brinlee Lanik to take the opener 25 to 19.
Alliance had quite the start in set 2. The hosts stormed out to an 11 to 0 lead and were never threaten. Following a kill by Weber, Poss went to the line and ran off 10 straight. Four of her serves were aces. During the spree, the Lady Bulldogs got kills from their senior leaders Adams, Libsack, and Weber. Three points by Weber later in the set extended the Alliance lead. Ahead 18 to 3, three Adam’s points made the scoreboard read Alliance 21 Gordon 3. The action came a conclusion with Jelinek scoring 3 in a row as the hosts took the set 25 to 4.
An 8 to 3 Alliance run to began set #3 helped the Dogs get off to a strong start. Five Poss points were the key. Up 11 to 7, Jelinek went to the line and ran off 3 straight as AHS margin went to 7. Down the stretch. Alliance got kills and points by Weber, Poss, Cody, and Libsack to stay out in front. Kills by Weber and Olivia Krejci finished off the Mustangs and the Dogs took the set 25 to 17.
