Ogallala Ousts Lady Bulldogs in Three Sets

Volleyball fans were treated to one of the state’s best teams on Thursday. Top rated Ogallala came to Alliance High and put on quite a show. The Indians bested the hosts in three sets 25 17 25 12 25 12. With the defeat, the Bulldogs now have a 6 and 10 mark for the year. Ogallala also won the 2 earlier games. Alliance fell in the reserve contest 25 14 25 19 to start the action. Game #2 was the junior varsity affair where the visitors got the win 25 10 25 11. Top scorer for AHS was Brinlee Lanik who ended with 5 points while Kaiah Adams had 7 kills to pace the Dog offense.

Early kills by Ryli Poss and Addison Weber gave the Dogs a chance for an upset. A 7 to 1 spree ensued as the Indians took a 7 to 3 lead. Midway through the opener, the hosts got kills and points from Adams and Weber to close within one at 8 to 7. Behind 15 to 9, an ace serve by Kenley Jelinek closed the Bulldog deficit to 5. The clubs would then swap scores with AHS getting plays from Weber, Poss, and Alexis Libsack. A kill by Alliance’s Maslin Breen made it a 21 to 16 contest but the set came to a finish with an Ogallala run of 4 to 1. Final of set one OG 25 ALL 17

Four consecutive Indian tallies is how set 2 started. A point by Poss thanks to a kill by Adams stopped the spree but the guests responded with another strong run to surge ahead 9 to 2. Using a strong spiking game, the visitors would increase their advantage. Ogallala went on an 8 to 2 run to go ahead 17 to 4. Kills and points by Adams sliced the gap later in the set but a late fury by the Indians put the battle away. Set 2 belong to the guests 25 to 12.

Alliance stay in striking distance early in the finale. More points and kills by Adams put the score at 6 to 4 in favor of the Indians. But 7 straight OG tallies ensued as the Bulldog’s deficit stood at 13 to 4. Two points from Lanik sliced the gap to 16 to 9 but it was close as the hosts would get.
