Alliance Middle School and Sidney squared off in a pair of football games on Tuesday. In the 7th grade contest which was held in Alliance, it was the hosts cruising past the Raiders 36 to 6 to improve to 2 and 1 for the year. AMS also got the W in the 8th grade battle, defeating Sidney in Sidney by the score of 30 to 14. With the victory, the eighth grade Dogs go to 1 and 2 on the season. A one quarter B game was played in the 7th grade level with the score ending at 0 to 0.
In the seventh grade battle, AMS got the ball first and, using a nice kick return by Tee Johnson, began the scoring. It took just 2 plays for the Bulldogs to get on the board as running back Dreyton Perez score from midfield. The play went 56 yards and with 7:33 left in the quarter, the Dogs took the lead. Perez added the PAT as AMS went up 8 to 0. Strong tackles for losses by Alliance’s AJ Garcia and Bo McCune denied a Sidney score of their first attempt. Starting with great field position, the Bulldogs again went to their gain game with big yards achieved by Perez and Karson Leisy. Alliance’s advantage then went to 14 to 0 after a 16 yard TD run by Perez. The PAT was no good and with 4:24 remaining in the opener, Alliance had a 14 point lead. A long pass by the hosts right before the end of the period gave Sidney a chance. But an interception in the end zone by Bulldog Declan Kirchner stopped the drive. Period 1 came to a conclusion with AMS ahead 14 to 0.
Quarter 2 was a good one for the hosts. Alliance tallied 22 points on three touchdowns to increase their margin. The scoring began with McCune racing down the left side for a 73 yard TD march. Perez tacked on the extra point that put the Raider deficit at 22 to 0. At the 4 minute mark, Alliance scored again on a 22 yard pass from McCune to Ashton Weingart. The PAT was no good as AMS surged ahead 28 to 0. The half came to a finish with the Bulldogs getting interceptions from Nehemiah Valdez and Perez to keep the shutout alive. McCune would score the final TD for the 6 yard line in the final seconds of the half. A reception by Weingart was good and the half came to an end with AMS up 36 to 0.
Sidney got the ball first in the third and put together a long drive. With the clock running due to the 35 point rule, the Raiders had the ball the entire period. A strong tackle by Dog Vincent Burger early in the fourth kept the guests off the board. Alliance also got nice defensive efforts from Johnson, Lucas Clark, and Blake Steinman as Sidney was turned away. A big run by McCune on the Dog’s only possession of the half was the highlight for the offense. Sidney would score on the game’s final play and the contest ended with Alliance winning 36 to 6.
SID 0 0 0 6 6
AMS 14 22 0 0 36
Nice gains in the B game from Johnson and Leisy were the Bulldog’s offensive highlights while solid stops by Leisy and Steinman on D kept the visitors off the board.
In the 8th grade game. Sidney took an early lead but 30 straight points by AMS were enough in getting the win. The Raiders scored late but fell short 30 to 14.
Both squads will play Scottsbluff on Saturday at 9:00. 8th grade will be at home while the 7th is on the road.
