8th Graders Finish Season with Shut Out Win over Mitchell

With touchdowns in every period, the Alliance 8th grade football ended their year by blanking Mitchell 34 to 0 in action on Saturday. Alliance led 18 to 0 at halftime and added scores in both the third and fourth periods in getting the victory. With the win, the Dogs conclude their campaign with a 2 and 4 mark. The contest was played in Mitchell .

AMS had success on their first drive. After stopping the Tigers on their first possession, the Dogs got the ball into the hands of running Roy Torres who responded with a couple of strong attempts. Torres scored from the 17 as the Dogs took a 6 to 0 lead. Big tackles by Alliance ‘s Hunter Jensen and Dixon Bair keyed the defense early in the contest. The first ended with another Dog stop as AMS kept the pressure on the hosts and a Bulldog turnover. After one quarter of action, the Bulldogs were up 6 to 0.

Key tackles by Quinton Scroth, Enzo Kappius, and Tatum Devlin foiled the host’s next try as the second period began. Starting from the 30, the Bulldogs offense scored again. A 10 yard run by Bair started the possession. It was followed by a big pass play from Bair to receiver Aschen Fries that put the ball inside the 5. Bair capped off the series with a 1 yard touchdown as the visitors surged ahead12 to 0. In the final moments, the Alliance defense registered another scoreless possession while the Dog O put one more on the board. Torres had a 17 yard gain as the guests got close. From the 19, the Bulldog advantage went to 18 after a TD pass from Bair to Fries. At halftime, AMS led 18 to 0.

A big kick return by Torres of 41 yards set up another Dog TD in the opening minutes of the third. Alliance would score and added the point after to increase their margin to 26 to 0. The rest of the period had the Alliance defense keeping the Tigers off the scoreboard and a big gain of 20 yards by Bair. Unfortunately, another Dog turnover denied Alliance more tallies. AMS led 26 to 0 after three quarters of play. Solid stops by Bulldogs Jace Jensen, Kappius , and Bair preserved the Alliance shut out in the early moments of the fourth quarter. The Dogs went to their passing game for their final points. A 17 yard completion from Bair to Fries began the series. Torres then caught a swing pass and went 56 yards to the house for the Dog’s last touchdown . Kappius tacked on the PAT. The game came to a close with Alliance getting interceptions from Mason Conyers and Fries. Final Dogs 34 Tigers 0
