Reflections for the Week of October 13

Police:

 Attended APS Leadership Meeting

 SRO Sherlock and Officer Campbell attended training regarding marijuana legalization and law enforcement

 Met with WSKF for an update on Public Safety Center Planning

 Met virtually with our vendor to finalize new vehicle and upfitting specifications

 APD participated in the Homecoming Parade

Airport:

 Airlines stats for August were 292 enplaned and 309 deplaned. September had 313 passengers enplaned and 266 deplaned.

 Started the work necessary to meet the requirements of the Title VI plan before we get final approval from FAA.

 Submitted most of the information requested from engineers for the airport layout plan.

 Continue to work on the schedule for the additional flights from Denver Air Connection. The additional flights are 35 weeks per year.

 Capital improvements projects are underway.

 Sent out letters to building tenants with tax assessments and rental increases.  Submitted state grant paperwork to finalize the state’s portion of the upcoming FAA project for replacement of runway lights. This grant will pay up to 2% of our 5 percent match on this project.

 Submitted easement request for next city council meeting.

 Wayne conducted training on the sweeper with Dan.

 Swept Runway 17/35.

 Mowing of airport road, terminal areas, and Runway 12/30 was completed.

 Routine services were conducted on the main airport truck, small mower, and prepared blower for winter.

 Participated in monthly ARFF training.

 The de-icing pump had to be rebuilt. This is what we use when putting down de-ice fluid on the runway, taxiways, and apron areas.

 Prairie dogs are still a priority with control efforts continuing. John Sampson helped us with these efforts for most of the summer and we thank him for his efforts! Accounting and Finance:

 Completed payroll

 Attended EAC committee meeting

 Completed phone conference with NDOT Representative

Utilities Billing Services:

 Cycle 2 bills mailed

 Cycle 4 reminder notices mailed

 Six new residential accounts

 One new commercial account

Water/Sewer:

 Completed 30 locates and 21 work orders

 3 radios installed

 2200 feet of sewer main inspected with camera

 1100 feet of sewer line jetted

 Performed routine water samples and chlorine residuals

 Read cycle 4 radios

 Exercised generators at Elkhorn Well, 18th and Colorado Well, and Lift Station “C”

 Cleaned well house and turned heaters on

 Replaced chlorine fittings and pipe at Elkhorn Well

 Attended engineers meeting for 2nd street sewer extension project

 Added VFD cooling fans and vents to Wells 1, 2, and 3

 Completed repairs on SCADA computer

Streets:

 Completed 30 locates

 Poured sidewalk at 6th and Grand after water main break

 Swept streets and cleaned drains

 Graded Ramblin Rd, Sweetwater, E 8th street, and E 12th Street

 Repaired street sweeper

 Maintenance on pickups

 Set up and took down barricades for Homecoming parade

Landfill:

 173.94 tons of refuse collected

 145 customers served

 Laid dirt cover

 Ran burn box

 Continued baler repairs

 Completed weekly maintenance

 Completed loader repairs

Electric:

 Replaced primary underground wire and transformer at apartment complex on Yellowstone Avenue

 Prepared transformers and metering equipment for future installation

 Repaired/replaced several streetlights

 Repaired/replaced line equipment affected by lightning during storm on Thursday afternoon

 Karl attended L &G user training in Council Bluffs

 Replaced a “reject” pole at 4th and Big Horn

 Performed maintenance on trucks and equipment

Library:

 Children’s Libarian Cynthia Horn’s Storytime this week featured “On the Farm” with lots of animal stories and farmer songs! Cynthia was also busy getting bookmobile deliveries gathered, doing KCOW announcements, maintaining contest entries, cataloging, doing backpack maintenance, and creating book displays. Her ongoing projects include program promotion with posters, flyers, press releases and website updates.

 Technical Services Librarian Mason Trumble is working on his graphic novel program, and has taken on the role of adding and maintaining areas of the City of Alliance webpage. Mason also will be looking into more programming in Technical Services that will increase the library’s level of services. Watch for exciting things to come!

 Adult Services Librarian Stephanie Hamilton delivered books to Highland Park Assisted, prepared for book clubs and presentations, maintained and developed displays. She and Cynthia Horn presented to the local PEO auxiliary current outreach library services and programs. Steph prepared for this month’s APL and True Crime book Clubs and led Crime After Crime book club where the group discussed “A Serial Killer’s Daughter by Kerri Kada Rawson, the BTK serial Killer’s daughter’s memoir.

 Library Clerks Pam Becker and Carolyn Hamel have been busy processing new materials and assisting with programming materials.

Golf:

 Rescheduled the last tournament of the season to this Sunday due to weather.

 Course continues to be in excellent shape

 Ground crews continue with regular maintenance and are also working on fixing washed out and stepped down cart path edges.

 Play continues to be steady when weather cooperates

RSVP & Senior Center:

 Continued preparing dine in and deliver meals for local seniors

 Planning a Bingo event with the Lineman School next Wednesday

 Hosted bingo, cards, bunco and coffee and treats

Museum:

 Visitation continues to be up. This week we had a couple from Greece and several visitors from Canada

 Hosted the monthly scrap booking event in the basement

 The Theater was used for a baby shower over the weekend

 Started planning for the Christmas Festival

 With help from the Parks Department all of the Christmas stuff is out and ready for anyone interested in making Christmas items for the auction in December Parks:

 Completed winterization processes on all of the irrigation systems in town

 Put antifreeze in the restrooms at the swimming pool and Sudman and Bower restrooms.

 Installed new handicap signs at the library.

 Prepared for and completed two funerals this week, one for multiple persons at once, and dug a grave for Monday.

 Mowed where needed.

 Picked up picnic tables at Bower Field and Central Park. They will go into storage until spring

 Weekly trash route done.

 Started trimming where needed.

Administration:

 Made recommendations to Council on filling the role of City Manager on an interim basis

 Gathered proposals and made a recommendation to Council on retaining a recruiting agency for the City Manager search

 Preparations for upcoming City Council Meeting

 Met with multiple department heads
